Hi mums!
my name is Francesca i'm the proud mum of margherita, 14 months.
Margherita is followed by two npi and pt, first diagnosed with hypotonia and hypermobility but both have been quite reduced by now, no problem with head control, feeding or fine motors skills that have always been really good.
She started bum shuffling at 12 months and she is quite fast, last week finally she started to bear weight but always leaning on something like sofa or little table.
I was so scared because everytime i tried to put her on feet she lifted her legs like a frog :-(
She cannot pull to stand yet, i have to put her on knees, because she hates tummy time!!as soon as i try to make her crawl traditionally in a second she put herself in sitting position ad run away on her little bum!
I'm really sad, at the day care everyone is walking and i'm really worried she will never walk :-(
When did your bum shuffler finally pull to stand and then walk?
Thank's lot!
Francesca

My bum shuffler didn't walk until he was 18 months - he just didn't really see the need to, as his hands were free to do everything he wanted to do; unlike with a crawling baby. So I wouldn't worry just yet!

He's now 17 and spends as much time as possible in a horizontal position. Grin

My hyper mobile, bum-shufflers DD didn't walk until she was 2. She's now 4 and you would never know she was such a late walker.

my two were bum shufflers, also both got hypermobility.....they walked around 22/23 months ....caught up so fast when they did do it, now they are 6 and 8 and no problems at all, they do loads of excercise for the hypermobility to strengthen their muscles.

It was hard when they were little because there was sometimes competition...with a mum asking why my DC weren't walking. Try to be tough and shrug it off- its actually alot easier before they walk....and walking at 12 months doesnt guarantee a place at oxford! Grin

I agree with previous poster- bum shuffling is actually very sensible, as they can take everything they need with them as they travel!!

My bum shuffler didn't walk until 20 months. And when she did, that was it- no wobbling and falling over etc she just started walking one day and was a confident walker from then on.

My bumshuffler didn't walk till 21 months. When age dud she took off. It is good having a 'late' walker as once they do take off they have more sense than a 11 month old walker!

thank's for all your testimonials!it's a big truth that bum shufflers can go around and play with hands free and this does not encourage them to pull to stand.
margherita is so active, never rest!i'm a littl ebit tired of all people that every time ask me : "uhh is she walking?noooo?but why??"
ufffff

I also have a 14 month old bum shuffler, I suspect she's hyper mobile though haven't had her checked. Won't bear any weight on her legs whatsoever. I haven't been too worried as I bum shuffled myself, and walked at 19 months. Boy, she's heavy to carry around though! And I hear you on the annoying comments. Love any advice on exercises...
