what's yours doing?

Just wondered if I should be cutting down on daytime sleeps or milk.

So, what your lot up to at this age?

My dd is 26 mths but doing the same as she was at 20:
Sleeps from 1 to 2.30 (has to be woken up)
Has small cup of milk at snack time and large cup at bedtime (7pm-7am) and I'm not planning on changing this anytime soon.

TheBlonde · 04/12/2006 20:02

My DS is 21 mths
Up at 8ish and in bed by 7ish
Prefers milk to food so has probably 24 oz a day
One sleep - 12.30/1 ish for up to 3.5 hrs

liath · 04/12/2006 20:08

Dd 21 months.

In bed at 7.30. Up between 8 and 8.30 (wahay - recently cracked the early morning wakening)!

Cup of milk with breakfast. 6oz bottle at night. Afternoon nap of 1 - 1.5 hours but sometimes doesn't nap at all.

loopity · 04/12/2006 20:12

Hi, ds is 21 mths. He has started to drop his daytime nap of his own accord (his dd and ds still enjoyed their naps until at least 2yo). Drinks from a cup during the day - water/milk. Goes to bed around 6.30pm with 9oz bottle of milk but still wakes frequently during the night unfortunately!

northstar · 04/12/2006 20:14

Dd 18mths, has a one hour nap 12-1. She doesn't particularly like milk and wont drink much, although she has plenty in cereals etc. Has a small bowl of custard at bedtime 7pm, up at 7-8am.

poppiesinalinewithtinsel · 04/12/2006 20:14

TheBlonde - when and how much milk does he have?

weepootleflump - when is 'snack time'?

Do they have proper 'meal times' ?

liath - does he/she have no milk during the day. If not, is he/she a 'good eater'?

Just trying to determine whether I should cut out DS's milk or not. He doesnt eat much but loves his milk. Would that be really mean?

OP posts:
TheBlonde · 04/12/2006 20:18

8oz bottle first thing
breakfast = cereal
11.30 = lunch/snack, bread or crackers and fruit
small milk maybe 4oz
nap
post nap milk
dinner = meat/pasta + yoghurt
8oz bottle at bedtime

I am sure if I could reduce the milk consumption he would eat more but he cries and can now open the fridge
I might attempt substituting water for milk in the day

northstar · 04/12/2006 20:18

She has a big bowl of cereal for breakfast, then finishes off ds's. Fruit and cheese snack around 11 with watered down juice. Lunch is after naptime, then water, fruit, raisins are readily available until dinner at 6. Sometimes she eats it, sometimes not. If she doesnt eat her dinner then she doesn't get a treat but still gets her bedtime custard. Reading this back I'm realising that she often doesn't drink any milk.

liath · 04/12/2006 20:19

Hi Poppies,

No milk during the day, she's not all that keen on it TBH. She's a good eater and eats lots of dairy stuff (in fact would live on yoghurt if I let her!!). HTH.

poppiesinalinewithtinsel · 04/12/2006 20:20

I don't think I'm too off the mark then with my DS. They are all different after all I know but it is just nice to know what others do.

weepootleflump · 04/12/2006 20:23

Snack times are roughly 9.45am and 2.45pm.
DD has large bowl of porridge for breakfast plus fresh juice (sometimes slice of toast as well)
For one snack she'll have dilute juice + fresh fruit and the other milk + plain biscuit.
Lunch at 12 (eg salmon fishcakes + veg)
Dinner at 5 (eats whatever we're having- and almost as much as me, though I'm not a big eater)

weepootleflump · 04/12/2006 20:26

northstar - 'bedtime custard'? is that a family tradition or something?

coolmama · 04/12/2006 20:31

My DS is 21 months old and has had the same routine for about the last 5 months -

7 - 8am - 8oz bottle of milk - not always finished.
8 - 8.30 am breakfast, cereal or egg, toast and fruit.
10.30-11ish - snack - cheese and crackers or toast, fruit and fresh juice or water.
1pm - proper lunch - meat/fish etc with one starch and some veg and water.
2 - 4 pm - nap
5pm - dinner - veggie pasta, maybe yogurt or fromage frais and fruit and water
6.30 - 7ish - bed time with 8oz of milk , generally finished.
Sometimes he will have a small sleep in the morning too, generally after a structured activity as he is a bit neckered afterwards. HTH

about the same as mine psychobabble although he tends to have milk just after his 'main' meals and he sleeps from 12.30 - 2.30 (I have to wake him). He used to go to bed about 7 pm but now its more like 8 pm which is why I am thinking I may need to cut down on his daytime sleep. What ya' reck?

OP posts:
northstar · 04/12/2006 20:58

So yes weebootlef. Couldnt take a chance on the lo's waking up any earlier than absolutely necessary so force-feed (not really) them milky puddings to make extra doubly sure they're sleepy and full til morning. Always done it!

weepootleflump · 04/12/2006 21:06

lol at northstar, I think it's a lovely 'tradition'

cjmummy · 04/12/2006 21:12

my ds is 21 months and is at nursery full time so pretty much follows their routine during the day which is:

6.40am get up (usually still asleep at this point)
7.30am go to ursery for breakfast ... cereal and toast
9.30am snack - fruit
11.30am lunch - main cooked meal and dessert
12.00pm nap - he only sleeps about 45mins at nursery but sometimes 2-3 hours at home at weekends
2.00pm snack - dried fruit
3.45pm tea
5.00pm snack - rice cakes or biscuit or homemade cake then home
5.30pm bath time
5.45pm book and milk
6.00pm bed

gosh TheBlonde I can't believe how much sleep your lo has.

liath - I think we might share a (very unusual)firstname. And my surname began with h. This is freaking me out!! Unless you are a Lia TH

My ds is 17 months and his routine is:

up at 7.30 (8 on a good day)
milk at 7.45 or 8 (but losing interest in it and only has a couple of ounces now)
breakfast at 8.15ish
snack at 9.30ish
lunch at 11.30ish
sleep on the dot of 12.30 for 1.5 to 2+ hrs (wondering if we should reduce this as he is starting to play up at bedtime whereas a few weeks ago even was zonked)
snack at 2.30 ish
dinner at 5.15ish
bed at 7.30 (slipping towards 8 though as not so tired)

I have mixed feelings about the lunchtime nap - on the one hand it is a very welcome break to catch up with stuff and on the other I look forward to be able to go out to lunch or for a whole day. I feel like I am a prisoner to the house as ds won't sleep in the car or pram anymore.
