Zero weight gain between 3 and 4 years old?

My just-turned 4 year old had his annual check-up yesterday and it turns out he has gained no weight at all in the past year. He is still only 31lbs. Is this normal?

He has always tracked average for his age but I just can't believe he hasn't gained any weight at all in a whole year. His little arms are like sticks!

He did have stomach flu 2 weeks ago and it really knocked him for six so maybe he lost some weight as a result but even given that context I am concerned that he is so skinny. He is a fairly picky eater and tends to just like the same meals - pasta with veggies / olives / cheese, quesadillas and bagels with salmon / cream cheese. I have started mixing it up recently with beans on toast, scrambled eggs and a few other things but generally that's what he eats. We are not big eaters ourselves and I often just have pasta or salad or soup for dinner in the evening so I rarely cook a big roast dinner or meat & 3 veg type food.

I am celiac myself so am very conscious of weigh gain and dietary issues in children as I failed to grow well as a child due to undiagnosed celiac disease and I would hate to think that I am neglecting his health in the same way. Sad

Firstly you are in no way neglecting his health. Although fussy he is a lot less fussy than my very soon to be 6 dd.

Dd is only 35lb at 5.8 months.

She has maintained the 2nd percentile since birth, briefly dropping off the chart after illness.

Did they raise any concerns with you yesterday?

5.8 years...years godamit!

The doctor didn't seem overly concerned as she pointed out that he was tracking around his usual percentile and had grown in height. She kind of implied that a crappy diet might be to blame but accepted that he is on the fussier side and just suggested I feed him more protein.
