DD (23 months) is sleeping TERRIBLY!!!!!

Take tonight, takes ages to settle, asking to either be cuddled or to hold mine/DH hand. Eventually falls asleep, wakes after less than hour, go through same thing again, sleeps for another hour or so, wakes again, bring her in bed with me and she spends the next 4 hours crying out every 20/30 mins!!!!

She has had Calpol and Nurofen (with a 4 hour gap between) as was dribbling earlier today.

This has been the picture the past week or so.

It's now 04:15, I went to bed at 9:20 and haven't slept at all!!!! And somehow I have to get through the day looking after a toddler!?

Why is she not sleeping??????????

Why do they sleep fine for a few weeks and then have such a rubbish period?? Realise teething will be the culprit on occasions but not all the time, and especially where she's had medicine.

Am at a loss to know what to do

It's shit, you have my sympathies! I have a 22 day old and the reality of what's ahead sometimes leaves me feeling a bit what-the-fuck-have-we-done...again! Dd1 is nearly 5 and sleeps well enough so I'm trying to remember that eventually it gets better Smile

ShiftyDisco · 13/10/2015 05:10

Eugh I'd forgotten how shit sleep deprivation is. I have managed an hour of sleep so far tonight with my 2 week old though! You have my sympathy, my 4 year old isn't a great sleeper but I really had forgotten just how soul destroying this level of no sleep is...

It's soooooo hard!!!!

I just got my longest stretch of the night: 20 minutes! How grateful am I?!?

She woke again crying, stood up in her cot. I want to yell at her how tired I am and that mummy needs her sleep in order to be able to function and get through the day. Looking after a toddler when you've had a good night sleep is challenging at the best of times!

I just wish I knew why she constantly woke?!?! If you're asleep your asleep!!!!!

I feel your pain. DH is away overnight, have 3 yo and newborn. 3 yr old had summoned me into his room no less than 13 times in last hour and a half. If I ignore he'll get louder and wake the baby. He only ever does this when I'm alone with them! They are tag team sleep depriving me! Thank goodness it's a nursery day for older DS.

MrsDeathOfRats · 13/10/2015 05:46

I live for nursery days. Have dd (3) and DS (1) and they tag team. On the incredibly rare occasion DS sleeps for more then 3 hours dd wakes. Guaranteed.

DS screams and writhes if he wakes as he wants to be held, be put down, picked up, into my bed, into his bed, he wants to pull my hair (uses it as a comforter but it bloody hurts as he doesn't just touch it, he tries to rip it out!!)

I've had 3 hours total sleep tonight and went to bed at 9.40. Had just over 2 hours last night and the beasts kids alternated waking and napping so I didn't get to nap during the day.

Dd is actually quite unwell at present so no nursery which is flooring me!

It does get better. I've no idea when but at some point it seems easier Thanks

I have a 23 month old who has never slept through the night and a 13 week old who has fed 6 times in the past 8 hours, I feel your pain. The minute the baby falls asleep the toddler wakes up.
Has she got her molars? Could be them starting to push down.
