i want to take my baby to waterbabies type swimming lessons. he is 5 months and the lady rang up the other week to see if i wanted a place for him but she wanted me to ring her back the next day and the lessons started that week. i couldn't organise myself in that time so i declined. the next classes start when he will be 8 months. is this too old? did anyone else start baby swimming lessons at a "later" stage.

um, yes. i think so but i cant remember ! its been a bit of a blur, that last 3-4 years, what with three babies n all...

i did swim lessons at some points with 1 and 2, and ARAIR they have a diff age group for the 'older' babies. should be fine.

you can still take him swimming in the mean time. and theres a DVD you can buy which shows you what to do to get them used to the water. its pretty simple stuff, if you fancy doing it yourself...

I did start earlier (4 months), but I don't think it matters. Why don't you take him to the pool in the meantime to get him used to and enjoying the water? That's really all the early lessons are about.

we started baby swimming laessons with dd2 when she was 17 months, no choice of any earlier, we were on a waiting list. she was a little nervous at first but she loves it now at 20 months.

Hello I had similar situation, just didn't get round to booking for summer term for DS so started in Autumn term when he was nearly 8 months. Was told by lady on phone that it is better to start younger, but although he is second oldest in class of 8 babies, all were 6 months plus. Term finishes tomorrow and we have signed up for next term already as he really enjoys it. We are using Aquatots. Very good so far.
