Did your baby first say mom or dad first?

I sort of heard him say "mum" but it wasn't really very clear and it was one time. Now he constantly says Dada all day long. It's very clear and his favourite word. I'm a mother and am still waiting on the "mum, mom or mommy" :P It doesn't really bother me. Infact it is kind of funny because it's got my husband running to him all the time to help, while I take a well deserved coffee break. :P

Papa at about 12 months.

Mummy at 18 months.

DP consoled me by telling me that of course DD didn't need to call for Mummy - I was always there ;)

KittyandTeal · 14/09/2015 20:10

Neither, she said 'cat' at around 13 mo. Quickly followed by duck. Bloody traitor!

PermetsTu · 14/09/2015 20:11

'Da' is a very easy first sound for them to make so often comes first.

Both dc said "dadadadada" over and over again first. At around 7/8 months they clearly meant "dada" but neither said "mama" until nearer 11 months.

DingbatsFur · 14/09/2015 20:11

Another for 'cat' at 12 months. The rest of us pale in comparison.

Sunshineandsilverbirch · 14/09/2015 20:12

Dad first. Both of them. He was so chuffed it was lovely.

They said I love you Mummy to me first though...

RuffWearer · 14/09/2015 20:13

DS said 'car' very distinctly at a freakishly early age, followed by duck, bus, dog, choo-choo, milk. Either parent was waaaay down the line.

PennyHasNoSurname · 14/09/2015 20:13

DS is 10mo and can say Dada (first word), Hiya, Bye Bye and my bloody sisters name. Still no Mama.

If its any consolation I dont remeber which DD said first (she is now nearly four).

MollieCoddler · 14/09/2015 20:13

DS 14 months says dada all day long too! it also seems to be a word for his big brothers too.

he generally doesn't say mama but has said it in the past

EeyoresTail · 14/09/2015 20:13

I'm not sure of the timings but dada definitely came a good few months before mama Sad

RaaRaaTheLion · 14/09/2015 20:14

DD said mama at 6 months and DD and wack wack ( quack quack to her toy duck) at 8 months. HV said it's usually dada first because D's are easier to say.

NicholasName · 14/09/2015 20:14

Dada. It's an easier sound so more usual for it to be first.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/09/2015 20:15

He said 'bear'. Lots of people had told me that babies say 'dadada' before 'mamama' because the 'd' sound doesn't need a precise lip position like 'm' and is therefore easier. But 'b' is also a precise lip position, so he must just have really loved his bear (he still really loves his bear at 11 yo).

HoneyDragon · 14/09/2015 20:15

Dog. For both ds and dd Hmm

BathshebaDarkstone · 14/09/2015 20:15

Dad. I think because "duh" is an easier sound. Smile

SlipperyJack · 14/09/2015 20:15

DH was chuffed to bits when DS said "daddy" as his first word at 18 months lazy little fecker. He was crestfallen when it turned out to actually be "teddy".

yeOldeTrout · 14/09/2015 20:18

Shoe. & Sock. Car. Tractor.

Chchchchangeabout · 14/09/2015 20:23

Dada was first word

itsonlysubterfuge · 14/09/2015 20:50

She always said Dada and signed Dad as well. Never signed Mom, but did say Mama after.
