My dd did this when she went to bed which I think is a comfort thing. It made me smile as I remember doing this as well! Have you tried Nelsons Teetha which is a homeopathic preparation which is in the form of granules and you pop in the mouth and calms the soreness? I was recommended this by alot of mums and my 2 did seem to settle when I gave it to them.

my DD had a similar thing with face rubbing. I was so worried that she would damage her eye since it was permanently red but it stopped by about 6mth when she discovered her thumb so I guess they all just need a comfort thing.
The books make mention of rocking and head banging as comfort behaviour so I think we should probably be grateful it's quite harmless (although I'm sure the anti thumb suckers might have something to say about that statement).

my ds does this as do I especially when going to sleep. Dont think it is anyting to worry about..

I do this, always have, ever since I can remember. It drives dh mad, I have woken up with him holding my feet to make me stop. I mostly do it in my sleep, its a comfort thing, like thumb sucking. He will either grow out of it, or not. He will learn to control it, but I still, at nearly 38, if stressed slip my shoes off and rub my feet together, it helps me.
