cupboard safety lock to defeat 3 year old?

Hi, I'm looking for a safety lock to put on my washing machine door, thinking one of those self adhesive ones. Can anyone recommend one that is tricky to open to stop a 3 year old? Fed up of him pouring water into the washing machine then peeing in it!

thanks

At three he is plenty old enough to be able to FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS and to not do things that he has been told not to!

Why on Earth would he pee into it? There may well be more serious things he needs to learn NOT to do when he is told, such as drinking bleach, or sticking things into electric sockets.

Yes, three year olds will explore, experiment and push boundaries, but parents have to learn how to anticipate all of this, and enforce discipline in a considerate, but effective way.

I'll admit that in a line up of three year olds he is not the most obedient. But come off it hands up all parents of three year olds who never put the mobile/ tablet/ keys up high. This is no different my son just happens to be fascinated with washing machines, water, things going round sloshing this new game of his has all the elements of being incredibly fun. I want to stop him without getting into a battle. I would rather save the battles for more important things. I have bought some boots safety latches while we are away and see if they do the trick.

Have you been reacting to it? In which case I would not because you can't always stop something. So if he wees just move him away and clean it up.

Blimey I've never met a three year old who always does perfectly as they are told!

Looks like the long stick on type might work.

Put a nappy on him backwards perhaps?

I think you need to just have consequences tbh also. My 4 year old at 3 years would def have been able to open those little locks so unless you add a padlock not much will prevent them.

You shouldn't need to keep anything up high apart from actual danger like bleach surely? Do you actually put your phone up high every time you use it?

Bertie - a nappy on backwards? He's 3 years old! Not many 3 year olds wear nappies

Magnetic ones on Amazon. They're not that cheap but unless you use brute force there's no way of opening the door without the magnetic "key", unlike the ones where you open it a crack to unlatch it.

Thanks so much, miraculously he has stopped doing it but if it happens again I will try the magnetic ones
