How many nights did your DC's wake during growth spurts????

Hi All DD is 11 weeks and has been sleeping through for a few weeks - I suspected a growth spurt last few days as taking more than usual when feeding (bottle fed) and lo and behold she woke last night and would settle and then drained a bottle like she'd never been fed. I just wondered how often other peoples DC's woke like this during their growth spurts as I don't want to start encouraging her to start waking at nights for feeds again.

Hi Jam77. IMO you haven't been flooded with replies because you may have asked a question akin to the 'How long is a piece of string?' one! , ie. it's really tricky to answer because there are so many factors involved and every child is so very different, IYSWIM.

Personally speaking, I never really noticed when my DC went through growth spurts as such , they just had hungrier and less hungry periods, good sleep and bad sleep periods etc. I think that probably at 11 weeks old, which is still pretty little, if your baby is waking and needs to be fed then she needs to be fed and this could last a couple of nights or a couple of weeks but when she doesn't need it any more she will sleep through.

Thanks snowstorm - you can tell I'm a new mum!! I know nothing is textbook, but i like coming on here and getting others experiences so thanks for the reply!!!

I agree re. how useful MN is. Wish I'd known about it when I was a new mum, the anonymity would have been wonderful considering how fantastically stupid some of my questions were in the first few days ...okay I mean weeks, actually make that months ... or perhaps years ... okay, so I'm still doing it .

[PS. I'm not in any way suggesting your question was stupid by the way so please don't mis-read it that way!]

Jam77 · 27/11/2006 14:55

lol!! I make you right - even now when I look back at the questions I was asking only a few weeks ago I and I will do the same in a few weeks, but at the time all I can think is "get on MN and ask someone!!!" lol....

Agree with Snowstorm its hard to answer. In my case dd would take from 2 days to 2 weeks to get through it. Don't worry about messing up any routine, it all sorts itself out again.

Sorry I can't help more.

Jam77 · 27/11/2006 16:46

Can't wair - it is a help and thankyou - good to hear that it doesn't hurt progress, have just started to breath a sigh of happy relief that DD was sleeping through and have panicked (just a bit that she will now start to wake up every night again!

We meet again Jam! Following previous posting about dummies, dd has woken up every night for 7 nights at 4.30am and not gone back to sleep properly until I shoved a bottle in her in desperation.

Only realised today that she might be hungry(duh)
and having a growth spurt.

Started her on baby rice today and am resigned to 4.00am feeds again (zzzzzzzzzzzz)
Perhaps they like the night because they are Goth babies!

forevermore · 27/11/2006 20:34

just in case you're interested, mu dd is 16 months and generally sleeps 8pm till 6am. however still wakes in the night for 3-4 days when having a growth spurt. maybe up to 5 tmes a night! this again will happen when new teeth are coming through.

at 1 weeks i was still on a 24 hour colck and when she woke i fed her, i din't try to put her into a routine till she was 5 or so months and that was so i could have her in a pattern for my return to work at 8 months.

IMO this is a short time in their lives where they can do as they please, so I would just relax and let them get on with it.

Don't know..(echoed in quiet desperation)

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 11:22

jam - ds is also 11 weeks seems to be on a permanent growth spurt! in reality tho he usually seems unsettled for around 4 days or so but it has not, so far, affected his nighttimes. . Funnily enough he always seems far sleepier during a g.s. sooooooooo confusing aren't they?! and mine is no.2 and still confuses me!

Jam77 · 28/11/2006 11:47

Hi Crusie - It is weird, DD is more sleepy in the day too, but wakes odd nights for a feed and drains the bottle in seconds flat....then goes through a night or two then wakes again getting same amount of day feeds....they are confusing aren't they??? I have to say this is the first growth spurt I have noticed as DD wasn't sleeping though at 6 weeks (when they are supposed to get one)
