Teething and sleep..any advice?

Our 20 week old DS we think is teething (little white bumps on lower gums, dribbling, hands in mouth, flushed cheeks from time to time). Sleep was (!) ok, went to bed half 7, slept til at least 3, sometime even longer (bliss) but last couple of nights has stirred just an hour or two after bedtime and yelped/whimpered. Then woken up regularly, only soothed by cuddles or a dummy. Tried Calpol last night but can't do this every time he has a bad night. What can we do (DH really suffering from lack of sleep!) and how long does this last? (new to mumsnet by the way)

sorry to say this could last for ages. My ds2 had trouble with his front teeth his side ones over took leaving us with a baby dracula! A cold teaspoon from the fridge is good to help the teeth cut through, or an unopened ice pop to chew on.(need i say then thrown out?) I have to say a few weeks into teething I checked him changed bum, offered drink, gave him calpol then let him cry it out. I was so worried about developing sleeping problems like I had with ds1.

Thanks for info. We're also worried he might develop sleep problems from this if it goes on much longer. Hope it passes sooner rather than later!

hi ali5... ds is now 21 months.... teething goes on forever (soory to say) i find with ds that it's while the teeth is threatening to break through he's very restless and wakes in the night regularly, but once the little bugger is through all goes back to normal again (sleeps 6.30-7.30)!! the only advice i can offer is be consistent in your approach to night waking, i settle ds back into bed without fussing over him too much (depending on how upset he is!) have you tried any teething gels yet? i find these help as opposed to giving regular calpol!
