Mobile 21 week old - tips/advice?

I have a 21 week old. He has started to be able to "travel" around the floor on his back by pushing up his bottom by pushing off from the back of his feet and sort of "jumping" along like a little crab. It means that he's become quite mobile ( I didn't know this was possible) - I'm worried that I'll take my eye off him and he'll have his head stuck under something. I put him on his playmat a lot but he's off out of that in a flash, but it may be time for a move to something different. Has anyone else experienced this ? If I've had to leave him for a few moments, I've started putting him in his bouncy chair so that at least he's strapped in.
Otherwise, it seems to be similar issue to when they start crawling - except he's bobbing along on his back.

sounds like a v cute way to get around! I would baby proof the house now - stair gates, sharp things out of the way, that sort of thing - my dd2 crawled at 5 months. I also put her out of harms way if I left the room - sometoimes I used the travel cot or her bouncy chair
good luck

Yes, it is quite cute and he does look quite pleased with himself. This really has come around too soon. I thought this was getting easier - don't those phases go by so quickly. I may have to create an "area" he can't get out of for now....

i can highly recommend scratchy seagrass matting with a big rug in the sitting room
dd3 wiggles aroudn on her tummy but as soon as she feels the seagrass she goes the other way

it is so funny

My ds was an early mover too. He climbed out of his bouncer chair at about 3 months no kidding, so beware. I know there is a lot bad press about them but I don't know what I would of done with out my walker, he whizzed about in it and wasn't forever putting bits in his mouth. We live in a ground floor flat so there is no worry of stairs etc. However that has now been put away as at 7 mths he climbed out it. In fact I can't remember him ever laying down and playing with his toes!

DD2 was a roller. From the age of about 4 months she would roll at speed across the room. It was so funny to see. Prior to that she was a catarpillar like your LO. Humping along on her back. She regularly got stuck under things!LOL!

She's 7 now and is fantastically agile. She's very big on wall climbing, gymnastics and has recently joined a hockey club Keep an eye on your fella. Sounds like he could be the same.

I second what hana said - try the travel cot (or a playpen if you're feeling flush) - they are soft, reasonably roomy for a little one and can also be used well, as a travel cot!
