Hi. Just wondered if anybody could give me some idea what they do at a 2 year old's health check? My daughter is having hers soon and I just have no idea what they "check" for.

Can anybody whose child has had one tell me what it entails?

Thanks :-)

when i took dd for hers few weeks ago, she just got weighed and got that new jab, im sure a health visitor was meant to come round but never did.

HV came to house to do DSs. She asked if I had any concerns, had a quick glance at DSs going about his business and said everything seemed fine. She asked me to go to clinic for a weight and height check. That was it.

Hiya, they check loads of things to do with different aspects of yr child?s development.

Things that spring to mind are: making a tower of five bricks
Recognising and naming four things in a book
Can you understand half of what they say?
Can they put on an item of clothing?
Can they name a friend - and draw a picture of them?

Don?t worry if the answer is no, IIRC the range for understanding half of what they said was 2yrs to 3yrs.

Prettymum - what jab did your daughter have at 2?

My dd's was done at 21 months. They had six or seven children all in at the same time, and set out little tables with crayons, puzzles, building blocks and so on, and just watched the children play with the toys and interact with each other. They then brought out a ball and a tea-set, and watched how the children reacted - rolling the ball, pretending to pour tea and so on.

The children's weight and height was recorded, and we were asked about specific things like whether the children could use a spoon, whether we were potty-training yet, whether they could put on or take off various items of clothing. All very informal.

H.V came to the house...had a chat...noted that everything seemed fine...and then went. Didn't actually ask her to do anything...just chatted to me.

They're phasing them out in our area due to lack of funding... but from memory, h/v said they check ... stack up to 4/5 bricks, forming basic sentances, scribbling (nothing as clever as drawing a friend, lol, just putting pen to paper), general balence etc. My h/v said they rarely pick up anything that isn't kind of known about already, iykwim - generally mums know if their lo is way behind in something and has already sought help. Although that may have been a line to justify the fact that ds wasn't getting a check!!
