Tongue tie please help

Hi, please can someone advise. My baby boy is 15 weeks old and feeding him (I BF) has always been really, really difficult. We were told he has reflux and given ranitidine and I have been on a dairy free diet for 6 weeks and the all day screaming has lessened but the feeding hasn't improved and yesterday we finally discovered that he has tongue tie which is probably the cause of all these problems.

His weight gain was good initially but has now slowed over the last 6 weeks. We are cutting the tongue tie cut next week but the lactation consultant said that because it was a posterior tongue tie the risk of recurrence is quite high and she wasn't sure if it would improve feeding or not! I am also worried that my milk supply hasn't been established due to him being such an inefficient feeder and that it won't be enough for him if/when he is able to feed properly. I am at the end of my tether, my baby is constantly hungry and unsettled but can't transfer the milk properly, I can't express any decent amount of milk, due to the suspected CMPI I can't even top him up with formula at the moment :( My GP is helpful but doesn't really have any idea and my HVs are worse than useless and constantly deny there is anything wrong. Does anyone have any success stories of a TT being cut at this late stage?

I'm so sorry to hear youve had major problems. It sounds like you are doing really well. My own ds is now nearly three. He had a posterior tongue tie and a dairy allergy that he's now grown out of.

He had his tongue toe snipped twice privately at 6 and 10 weeks old. I know that the private clinic I went to didn't do it beyond 12 weeks but it's worth investigating.

I also went down the Nhs but it was a 6 month waiting list. Please feel free to pm me and I can give you more details if you like.

On the plus side, my son still has the odd bf now and it all turned out well in the end, even if it didn't see so at the time!

My ds had his tongue cut at 6 weeks it's a very simple procedure. He was bottle fed but kept spitting it out as he couldn't suck properly he his feeding got better each day. The told me it was only after 6months it was a harder procedure & they should rush you through if your breastfeeding
