Toddler duvet - question

DD is 18 months and currently sleeps in a sleep bag in her cot.

Her room is, I'm afraid, naturally a bit chilly (it's north facing so never gets the sun) and even though it's thermostatically controlled (the temperature is between 18-20 at night, 17-19 during the day), it generally always has a bit of a chill to it.

We are thinking of trying her in a toddler duvet over the summer as hoping her room will be that bit warmer so that 'when' (and I'm sure it is a 'when' and not an 'if') she throws the duvet off at least it won't be in winter.

What I would like to know though is a) will she know to pull the duvet over her? I'm thinking not! And b) I would usually dead her in PJs in the summer with no vest but should I use a vest too for when she throws the duvet off?

Thanks

Is there a reason you want to change from a sleeping bag? My ds wore his until he was 2 and a half and went into a big bed

I figured it might be a good idea to get her used to a duvet first. She has a cot-bed so thought when we turn it into a bed she'll at least be used to the duvet

I would stick with the sleeping bag. My twins are coming up to 3 and are still happy in sleeping bags. JoJo Maman sell sleeping bags until 4 years.

Hi Taler - I have a 20 month old DD and we just moved to a toddler duvet last month as she had grown out of her 6-18m sleeping bags and it was either buy more or move to duvet - also same idea as you in doing this as goes into summer so she won't be as cold if she kicks it off! Apart from last night which was quite warm I've been putting a short sleeve vest under her pj's just in case and even some socks some nights. I have been pleasantly surprised how easily the transition has been though and she is even learning to pull the duvet up around her now - although it's 50/50 in the morning whether it's still on or not! I say go for it! Whilst you can of course stay in sleeping
bags for another year or so, they need to move out of them eventually so why not now?

I did the same when transitioning from sleeping bags in preparation for big bed. I put DD in a vest and onesies with feet in (or with socks on if no feet) so that she was at least covered up when she kicked the duvet off.

She's been using a duvet for nearly a year now and is in a toddler bed. She manages to stay under the duvet pretty well and I have it tucked in well at the bottom of the bed which helps to keep it in place.

If you get a standard single duvet and turn it sideways on the bed, you can tuck it under both sides of the mattress. A normal duvet (4 tog) is actually the same width wise as you need to fit a cotbed with a pillow. The the duvet is tucked in and they can't shake it off, or roll out that much once you've taken the side off.

My DS has been in a toddler bed with a duvet since he was 17 months and I put the duvet across the bed (landscape rather than portrait if that makes sense!) which means it tucks under the mattress easily.

Thanks all. Good to know I was on the right track. Just bit concerned coz her room has this damn chill in it at times!

Also what she do I give her a pillow?
