How much does your 4 month old sleep in the day(

My ds (dc3) has recently taken to just falling asleep on his own. At the moment he's flat out on his tummy on his playmat. I've never had a baby who does this. My other two pretty much fought the urge to sleep and would only fall asleep whilst being bf so this is new to me.

He seems happy when he's awake. He doesn't have a temperature or anything.

I never thought I'd question it if my baby slept a lot but it seems I really can worry about anything! He doesn't usually sleep much longer than an hour but will do this three or four times a day.

Is this within the realms of normal?

Lucky you! Sounds normal - Google sleep requirements for a 4 month old. Something like 16 hrs - my boy (now 7 months) would do 12 hrs overnight and then 3-4 snoozes during the day.

At 4 months my twins were still very sleepy.

Morning nap was 9am-10:30am
Afternoon nap 1 was 12pm-3pm
Afternoon nap 2 was 4:30pm-5pm
Bedtime was 6:30pm, I would wake them at 7am.

My DS was just like that - he was barely awake before 20 weeks, and has remained a kid who just loves his sleep (I know, we're lucky!). Nursery were amazed at his ability to play and then be asleep at the same spot a minute later...

So enjoy!!!

Yes enjoy it! I had 2 who did not nap in the daytime. At all. Ever. They just kept going and were rubbish at night as well just a quick 5 mins on the boob, but then pinged awake again.

And one who slept all night from 8 weeks, napped several times a day, anywhere you placed him. And still liked a good hour in bed aged 2 1/2

Some of them are just made awkward differently :)

I'll try to make the most of it then! He's just so different to my other dc. He doesn't seem to bf much but is a podgy wee thing so he must be getting enough and he just gets himself off to sleep. I've been worried that he's bored and stimulated with me at home which is why he sleeps so much!

I clearly remember driving around for hours trying to get dc1 to nap so this is very new territory.

That should say un stimulated.

Oh yes he sounds just like my epic sleeper. He was also a chubster, and a hugely efficient feeder (whereas the others were slim and snacked every 5 minutes). He also only pooed about every 2 or 3 days whereas the other 2 did it every feed, so about 10 times a day. Completely different metabolism.

He was also a committed thumb-sucker which I am sure is why he was so placid and settled himself easily.

I don't think 4 month-olds get bored :o they eat, some sleep and they look at stuff. That's it isn't it?

I hope so eggs Smile

Funnily ds is not so great at night but again he's probably better than my other two were so i can't really complain.
