DS, two, has turned into a raging little beast. Still has his lovely moments, but tantrums now HUGE.
He is a big boy and has started hating his car seat. We put it down to the fact that he is growing too big for it, got him weighed at mothercare and, yes, he needed a bigger one. But the ones on offer for 15kilos and up use the car seat belt to secure child and seat. Ds liked it for the first day, now screams, pulls the belt off and wriggles out. I am at my wits end when I am alone with him. Don't know what to do. Even if i could get a car seat that has securing straps i am not sure i can get him in on my own - he fights me tooth and nail. He is a lovely little boy generally but really has terrible moments. Anyone else experienced this?

My 2 year old learnt a few weeks ago that he could get his arms out of the straps...

(still in a 5 point harness)

he did it to me (just me and him in the car) on the motorway..

at next junction i came off and screamed at him... really loudly in his face.... and yes it did it on purpose terrify him, and he cried for ages and ages

(just re read, i did not go "aggh" but shouted very very loudly at him that "you do NOT take off your seat belt you keep your arms in it is VERY VERY dangerouse and makes me very very cross when you take your arms out)

he has NEVER taken his arms out since... (and actualluy more foten than not as he gets in he says to me (in his sweet angelic voice) "keep my arms in)

(like many of these children no matter how tightly strapped in he can still get his arms out )

while i cant (and wouldnt) smack him, that IMO is VERY dangerosue and quite simply he has to be strapped in properly end of, and he has to udnerstand that is very bad hence being scremaned at so loudly like he has never had before (and is unlikely to ever hear again)

how much does he weigh? because they can still use the ones with a five point harness until they are 40lbs, maybe best to keep him in that for a while yet.

A two year old is too young not to be in a five point harness carseat even if he is over 15kgs, they need to be at least 3 preferably 4.

mummyloveslucy · 29/11/2007 20:23

NAB3littlemonkeys My 2.5 year old is 18 kg and has also outgrown her 5 point harness chair. Do you know of any make that will do a 5 point harness chair for a child over 18kg as I agree this would be safer for a young child.

mummyloveslucy · 29/11/2007 20:28

beautifuldays I've never heared of a 5 point harness seat going up to 40kg are you talking about the special needs seats? My dd is 18ky and her head is above the top of her seat. Please let me know what make goes bigger.

nannyL · 29/11/2007 20:51

britax USED to make a car seat that has a 5 point harness suitable for up to 25kg

although they dont manufacture the seat anymore you might be able to find one.

Britax also do sepcial needs seats that can be used with a 5 point harness until 36kg, but these are specifically designed for SN children

beautifuldays · 29/11/2007 20:54

no i said 40lbs not kilos!!

i'm not up with all this metric malarky!

however if your 2yr olds are over 40lbs then how about this seat?

beautifuldays · 29/11/2007 20:56

yes the one i linked to has a five point harness and suitable up to 25kg, pricy tho...

NAB3littlemonkeys · 30/11/2007 07:51

What price your child's safety and your sanity?

beautifuldays · 30/11/2007 18:16

ok ok! it's not for me!

helenhismadwife · 01/12/2007 13:30

Im suprised mothercare recommneded one that you used just with a seat belt for a 2 year old. we have just bought a new seat for our 3.5year old as her priori was a bit small we went for the evolva 123 (kiddicare is cheap I paid £79.99) this has a 5 point harness still, which I read was safer

I had the same with 2 year old dd taking her arms out of the harness and bought a clip from sunshine kids that you thread the harness through it means she cant get her arms out, think it was about £5 posted and is very easy for me to undo and anyone else if there is an accident

NAB3littlemonkeys · 01/12/2007 14:58

Have you got a link for that, helenand hismadwife please? My 2 year old took one arm out the other day and gave me a huge fright.

helenhismadwife · 01/12/2007 15:20

hi Nab this is the thing I use to stop her getting her arms out its so simple to use

NAB3littlemonkeys · 01/12/2007 15:31
