only taking half bottles at night

my 3.5 week old dd takes her full bottle during the day but at night she'll only take half of it. She just completely refuses it and goes back to sleep. This results in her being up more frequently between sleeps at night.

is this normal and is there any way I can try get her to take the full amount?

Do you think she could go a bit longer at night between feeds? is she stirring due to hunger or it could be as she is too chilly/warm?

maybe try to rouse her a bit when she's looking like she's going to drop off, a nappy change or cool her down? I used to open the bedroom window during night feed to help keep him awake

Thanks both, I'll give those ideas a go. anything to get her from waking every 2 hrs during the night!

Maybe she isn't hungry? Would you want to be force fed if you were just sleepy? Feed her on demand is just that... Unfortunately that might mean more regularly in the night but the new born stage doesn't last forever.

If you could make her go slightly longer at night and try and stop her from nodding off mid-feed. How much is she actually having?.

nk1605 · 09/04/2015 18:57

She's stopping after she has about 50 mls, though sometimes it's even as little as 30 mls. During the day she'd have about 90 - 100 mls.

How long does she go between feeds in the day & how long roughly between the nightime feeds? x

nk1605 · 10/04/2015 09:39

During the day she usually goes 3 - 4 hours between feeds. During the night it's more like 1.5 - 2 hours

If shes def not rousing due to being chilly or too warm I would see if you can settle her back to sleep without a feed til she can go 3 hr or so. I resorted to a dummy but I know not everyone likes them but it worked for me. Also try and not get her too snuggly and comfy when feeding so she nods off. Stroking her feet or even placing her on her changing mat for a mo may wake her up and remind her to have her grub!
