Are Maclarens the way forward people??

Need a stroller as can't stand the one I currebtly have! It would seem that Maclarens are top, is that the case?

I want something lightweight, that collapses down and opens really easily, can be steered very easily one-handed and one that is plenty comfortable for DD.

Any recommendations?

Yes. I'm searching for a second hand triumph or quest for DD2 who is 20mo. Mostly for holidays and trips out when she needs a nap. I had one for DD1 which I gave to a pal before I realised I'd need it again!

BananaPie · 06/04/2015 05:28

You'd struggle to steer a maclaren one handed. You need one handle bar rather than 2 handles. I've heard good things about the baby jogger city mini

NoseyParka · 06/04/2015 05:40

I have always had mclarens and i have a double city mini. I love McLarens but pp is right about the city mini being easier to push one handed. I push the McLaren one handed most days, it is that from fun!

NoseyParka · 06/04/2015 05:40

far from fun...

skitter · 06/04/2015 05:51

I had a Maclaren from birth with ds1 and it was hard to push one handed. I'd get a baby jogger city mini in your shoes.

Thanks. For the record it's not so I can text/talk on the phone! It's so I can hold DD's hand when she wants to walk

I have a baby jogger city mini and rate it way above the maclaren. It folds down easily (in one piece), lays flat, has a decent shopping basket, a huge sunshade which is great for napping and is v easy to steer one handed. I'm not sure if it is more expensive than the maclaren but ours has been a fantastic investment and I wouldn't hestitate to recommend it.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 06/04/2015 07:22

Hate our maclaren quest. Really not worth the money IMO. Flimsy and can't be steered one handed. Shopping basket doesn't fit anything in and if you try and hang anything on the handles it tips over. We bought it for visiting IL's abroad but I hate using it.

Tinkerisdead · 06/04/2015 07:24

I came on to say the baby jogger city mini. I used my mil's maclaren with dd in it and one handed I ended up trying to push/steer it with my tummy. The baby jogger is great, my one and only gripe was that dd used to constantly try to sit up a bit more, re- adjusting herself because there was always a very slight incline to the seat no matter how much I tightened it up.

That said it was tremendous and it was so hardwearing. I jet washed it, steam cleaned it, it always looked pristine. The extra large sunshade was brilliant for naps too.

Pusspuss1 · 06/04/2015 07:27

I have both. They do different things well. I have the very lightest Maclaren, which is much lighter for me to use and fold than the BJCM, but it doesn't recline for naps and is hard to steer one-handed. BJCM I now find heavy, but it's sturdier and great for naps with the full recline and huge hood.

BananaPie · 06/04/2015 09:33

If your DD is the only child you'd be ok with a maclaren - easy to push one handed if no one's in it!

Taler · 06/04/2015 10:02

What age is the city jogger mini up to?

Micralite superlite. Can steer one handed, is super light, easy to collapse and put up and is freestanding when folded. Downside is basket is rubbish

slightlyinsane · 06/04/2015 10:47

I've had a cyber Callisto, an umbrella fold with single bar. Was amazingly easy to push one handed and the umbrella fold was handy for the car

Rainicorn · 06/04/2015 10:51

How old is your DD?

Avoid McLaren if you want to steer one handed. Go for either a BJCM or a Micralite Supalite. I've owned all three and they all have their pros and cons.

BJCM lies flat and suitable until they're out of a buggy
Micralite is the easiest of the three to push one handed, seat unit is bigger and higher but doesn't have much of a recline, not important if you're not needing it for your DD to sleep long lengths of time.

Micralite is my all time favourite buggy, and I've had a fair few.

shitebag · 06/04/2015 10:57

I HATED our Maclaren Techno XT with a passion, it was awful to push one or two hands, the recline was clunky, DS used to drag his feet on the front wheels and the brakes were useless.

We then got a Baby Jogger City Mini which was used until DS was almost 4 (he was a big lad too) and it was pretty good. I'm now using it for 2 year old DD and still like it but I would like to change it for a Baby Jogger Zip because its lighter and folds much smaller.

squiz81 · 06/04/2015 15:41

I got the nuna pepp (£89 from pram world) and I love it.

It opens and shuts really easily...in the mornings I can get it out of the boot and open it whilst holding ds.

It isn't an umbrella stroller so is great for one handed pushing. It also takes a buggy board so my toddler can hop on the back.

Famousfor5 · 06/04/2015 15:50

Don't like my new Maclaren Quest. The old model was better. The hood falls off every time you fold or unfold and the new rain cover is much bulkier in the basket, also I can't fold it with raincover attached like I could with the old one. These things are slowly driving me bonkers and I have Jogger envy.

BlinkAndMiss · 06/04/2015 20:57

I hate our Maclaren XT, it's clunky and difficult to steer. Not to mention ugly. I've used it for a while because it's the only one my DS can't escape out of. Well, until now - stupidly expensive if you buy new but I've just bought a 2nd hand Bugaboo Bee plus, it's amazing and light, can be pushed with one hand, folds small and DS can't escape.

Failing that, the Mamas and Papas Armadillo is a great stroller - I'd still be using mine if it wasn't for the easy to open harness. It steers with one hand, folds with one hand and the seat unit is huge enough for a larger toddler.

Wendied · 06/04/2015 21:01

I hated our Maclaren. Couldn't steer it one handed and it was just so heavy.

Love our Bugaboo Bee and am loving our BabyzenYoYo

JassyRadlett · 06/04/2015 21:05

DS is a very tall 3.5 and still fits comfortably in the City Mini for the nursery run and big days out - he can still nap in it too. Really roomy.

I hate Maclarens, think they're really overrated.

Hottypotty · 06/04/2015 21:10

How funny that people hate them-I adore our techno xt-it's been everything I wanted in a buggy and has given nearly 5 years of faithful service over 2 children, used nearly every day over a variety of terrains and yes, one handed at times.
It still looks new, roomy yet comfy, fits in the boot easily, lies flat, has decent sun shade, rain cover fits well.
Couldn't recommend it highly enough!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/04/2015 21:13

I have the techno XLR and I love it. Its the only pushchair weve ever had and dc2 is in it now. Its got a little handle on the side that DC1 holds while we walk along with dc2 in the seat.

smearedinfood · 06/04/2015 21:15

Depends what you want to do with it. Going on the bus - great because it's got small wheels. On planes and nursery they get knocked about so I'm happy with my new MaClaren globetrotter. £125 new from John Lewis. I get DS1 4 to hold onto the handlebar while and I drag his scooter and him along while doing the school run.

goestoshowyouthough · 06/04/2015 21:26

The Baby jogger city mini is fantastic. Cannot recommend highly enough. The gt version is a bit heavier to lift when folded but even easier to steer one handed than the regular one. Worth every penny imo. I think they are brilliant, and I've tried a few buggies!
