Wetting after a year of being dry

My little girl has been out of nappies for a year now, and has rarely had an accident. In fact the spare pair of knickers I keep at nursery for her has been there for nearly all that time. But now, at 3yrs 8 mths she's started wetting herself every day, usually towards the end of the day, at home & at nursery. The only change in her life recently has been the departure of her best friend from nursery about 2 weeks ago, & we wonder if this is something to do with it. Anyone got any opinions/ advice pls?

This sounds so normal, if that helps...both my dd and the neighbour's went through the same thing (except it was usually bedwetting). It was a stage like any other, and after a while it stopped (after some reward tactics! At this age a sticker chart could be worth a try, a sticker for every dry day, with a small surpise after 5 stickers and then a big surprise eg outing or favourite treat, after 20 stickers...) IME it was attention seeking, so the more of a "big deal" we made of it (getting angry and giving lectures etc), the worse it got. Praising and rewarding the dry behaviour worked a lot better!

Maybe being towards the end of the day she is tired and needs a reminder or two? Her friend's departure from her routine could have something to do with it...have they moved away? Is it possible for your dd to still see her occasionally, on the weekends maybe? Also check with thr nursery to make sure nothing else is going on, eg teasing, or if there have been any new staff or children lately.

Anyway, I'm sure it will pass, keep your chin up! HTH

Yup - I posted a messge on Mumsnet a few weeks ago about exactly the same sort of thing under "Help ds started weeing and pooing his pants again"!

It's so frustrating isn't it. We started by being all understanding and not making any fuss. This gradually got taken over by the shouting at him phase which did absolutely no good. We are now on the let's completely ignore it phase. This has been the most successful but he still has about 4 or 5 accidents a week, better than the 2-3 a day he was having.

All we can hope is that it is just another phase. As I mentioned in my other thread I think he is just being lazy. It's like they've learned how to do something and once all the praise and congratulations have stopped they decide they can't be bothered anymore.

The only advice I can offer is to just ignore it. It's the only thing that's worked for us.

Hello

Just did a search and got this. My DS will be four in 2 weeks and after over a year of being dry at night has wet the bed three times this week. He has also been dribbling in his undies a bit during the day to the extent that he smells of urine. I want to get this sorted before he gets teased and am wondering what might be causing it. I am taking a urine sample to the Drs in the morning to see if it is an infection (although he says he has no pain and his willy does not hurt etc). Has anyone got any other ideas while I wait for the results? Thanks a lot.
