Two year olds and trampolines?

Ok so me and my other half have been talking about a trampoline for our son's second birthday, we've been shopping around and we've decided we'll go for one of the junior ones that obviously has the enclosure for safety. I've had family say he's far to young and why don't we pick one of the "my first trampolines" which we've looked at but they have a handle bar and my first thought is he'll start bouncing and smash his chin/face off it! We have friends who have two older children (4 and 3) and another child the same age as our son and they all love the trampoline, does anybody else have a trampoline for their two year old? What's everyone's thoughts? Is he to young or not? Obviously he will be under adult supervision at all times and i believe it will be good for his physical development plus he's jumping around the living room and on his bed (cheeky boy!) all the time and he thinks jumping is so much fun! :)

If he's an active little chap and you have the space, I'd skip the handle bar one and get a proper trampoline with enclosure. I've seen my son manage one of those bar trampolines just fine at about 18 months, no chin smashing occurred, but he's also been fine on a proper trampoline at a friend's house from even younger.

I think at age 2 he's going to outgrow it too quickly and getting the small one is a false economy.

Yes go for a regular one - get a decent-sized one if you have the space, that will last several years a. We bought an 8ft one when my dad was 2, it's been the best thing we've bought for her. Her little brother (15 months) enjoys it too now. We had one with a bar when she was 1, by 2 she was bouncing so hard the whole thing tipped up as she jumped.

Dd got a handlebar one from Tesco at Christmas when she was 21 months. She loves it and we've had no incidents so far. It was less than £30 and we don't have the space in the garden at the minute for a proper enclosure one so for us it's not a false economy, she's had so much fun on it already.

She also loves her slide (a decent 7ft long one) not a small toddler one and can climb up the ladder herself so that's also something you could consider.

We've got a low one without a surround. No one has falle n off yet but they will Hmm its not ours its just been left by a friend for a spell.

My little girl has had a trampoline since she was 20 months, at 1st she held our hands but within a month or two she was bouncing by herself and she still loves it now and she's 2.9.

It's around 5 foot by the way not the small ones with a handle, and no enclosure, but she's never fallen off it.

Thank you all for your messages :), I think we'll being going straight for the bigger one it seems like a better idea with it being able to last longer and I think I'll personally feel better him having one without the handle bar I think I'd worry to much about him hurting himself on the bar Hmm.
Happy Easter all :) Easter Smile

If you can manage it, dig a huge big hole and sink the whole thing to ground level. Then you don't need to worry about DC getting up and down the ladder either.

We got ours for DS when he turned 2. We've had it a few years now and he still loves it as much as ever.

That's amazing eight such a good idea.

We bought one for our twin boys for their 7th birthday before finding out I was pregnant.. DD has been going on it with and without them since she could crawl/toddle about. She loves it. Ours is a big 10 foot one with an enclosure Grin
I think it's fine as long as you supervise

JemFinch · 10/04/2015 09:10

We are thinking of getting one for DTs 4th birthday but I can just see accidents! Both of them in there, at the same time, someone is going to jump on someones arm or leg. If I just had the one I would have gone for it a while ago.

NoPsipsinaChocolateOrange · 10/04/2015 09:17

Ds1 ate all the foam off his handle one, well, that is he bit it all off and scattered it around the garden.

We have had a 13ft proper one with a net, for the last 5 years or so and mine are now 11, 7 and 27 months. The 2yo has been on it since he was able to sit up, basically, and it really helped him to learn to walk and run without fear of being hurt when he fell.

He is very confident on it now and plays on it every day. I would get as large as you have space for.

If you've got the money spring free trampolines are amazing and the safest.

My dd (4) struggled with her physical development and was really late meeting her milestones. But since being introduced to a trampoline a few months ago. She has improved sooooo much. She loves bouncing away to her hearts content and her confidence has really grown.
We've got a 12 ft one coming on Tuesday. It's for the whole family, eldest ds is 15. I can't wait to see her little face when it's up!

GingerDoodle · 12/04/2015 19:28

My 2.5 year old would live in our 12 ft adult one of allowed and has done since she was 18 monthd. Has done wonders for her balance

IDontWantToBuildASnowman · 13/04/2015 09:21

If you have the space def go for a proper one that will last years. My son has been having a great time on ours since he was 18 months old (when his older sister was bought one for her birthday) and was doing bum drops by the time he was 2. Definitely not too young IMO.
