7mo won't let me leave the room without crying

My 7 month old DS is going through the separation anxiety phase. He will only happily be held by me, my DP and my mum. Anyone else and he cries. I can deal with that but what I am finding hard is that he now won't let me leave the room without crying. Any suggestions on what I can do? I have tried to talk to him when I am in the next room but he even cries when he can see me next door. I can't even go to the loo in peace! What can I do to stop this? Please help!

Completely normal phase of their development. Just have to ride the storm!

This is totally normal. Either just grit your teeth and get on with what you are doing or take him with you.

My little girl is 7 month and exactly the same. Drives me crazy.

All you can do is repeat the mumsmet mantra of "this to will pass" . Hopefully soon.

I remember this well, we had tears if my head disappeared behind the fridge door. Find a treat and treat yourself.

Thanks ASAS - wine is my treat!

Frustrating and upsetting though it is, it's normal. Your baby has developed sufficient understanding to be aware that you and he are separate entities and that you can disappear but, for him, if you're out of sight, you cease to exist which is a very scary prospect for him. He will learn that you continue to exist out of his sight at some point and then he will stop stressing when he can't see you.

He will also soon be old enough to start following you and choosing to leave you behind himself. Just give him time and, in the meantime, enjoy the wine Smile

This happened to my ds around 8mo coinciding with me going back to work. It has got a bit better at 11mo but not completely. It's normal and will pass.
