14mo not walking alone

He can do it holding hands or cruising, and when you let go he takes about five steps then leaps over.

Not sure if this is valid..

Dd1 was 14m walking.
Dd2 13m walking

And I know they're all different. But thy had much bigger feet at this age? The balance?

They were size 4 feet ish

He is size 2!

Dd refused to let go of my finger until 18 months. Started trying to walk at 11 months and I had constant backache.

Ds walked at 13 months on his own from the beginning.

They're all different.

It's very normal for a 14 month old to not be walking unaided yet. There doesn't need to be any specific 'reason' - just that they aren't quite ready yet. FWIW my second DC walked across a room unaided ONCE at 13 months and then did no more walking at all for nearly 3 months after that.

MushroomOmelette · 02/04/2015 09:05

I wouldn't worry. My dd is 15 months old and won't even walk holding on to anything at all. If I hold her hands she just sits down or dangles her legs Grin

They all develop at different rates.

I don't know why people worry about this before 18 months. They say anything up to 18 months for not walking is considered normal

cadidog · 02/04/2015 15:39

Mine is 14 months and no where near walking unaided yet. It hasn't really occurred to me to be worried, mostly because I'm aware of how much work it'll be once he can walk.

thatstoast · 02/04/2015 15:47

Mine is 14 months and has managed to take a few steps unaided. I'm trying not to worry but friend's children all walked around 12 months so they comment and compare.

PortGal · 10/04/2015 15:28

My oldest was 22 months before he took his first unaided steps. And I did meet mums whose kids were older when they started. I worried at the time but there was no need.

My youngest was same. The other two walked really early and she seemed so sturdy. Couldn't think why until I noticed every time they came in room her arms came up and they carried her. I figured with 13 year age gap she had a lot of attention and cuddling. I think as well we're there a shorter age gap,as with my older two, younger one safer/more able to keep up crawling or cruising furniture.

My dd was 20 months before she walked. She did it in her own good time and once she did that was it. Very steady walking from then on as if she'd waited until she could really do it without all the wobbling etc haha! No need to worry.

Jellyandjam · 11/04/2015 07:45

MushroomOmelette my dd was just like that. If ever I tried to stand her up she would just put her legs forward and sit down!
