Phobias

Hello, I'd appreciate any advice you have on this: my 11yr old son has a phobia of both bees/wasps (stung three times) and needles (awful experience at hospital).
We need to have a blood test but know it will be a real problem for him. Bees & wasps have ruined the last few summers and I don't want him to have to deal with it any longer. He also has a chronic illness and the stress of this impacts hugely on his health.

People have suggested NLP/CBT and I wondered if anyone successfully treated phobias? We're in Surrey but willing to travel if anyone can be recommended.

TIA

Our baby ( not our first) scored low iirc on Papp a scores and apart from him being a boy - it didn't really flag any thing else
He's here now - nearly two - happy healthy but v v v inquisitive to the point of exhaustion
He wrecks the house - hunts out danger - unscrews the tightest lids opens a stiff cupboard empties a full bottle etc etc
I just feel he is very very male
He seems clever but it's very early . We adore him but dp is definitely worried about ADD
We've had a lot of boys and this doesn't seem normal

Theladyinthebath - I think you need to start your own thread.

OP - a good phobia therapist can work wonders, I can't recommend because I'm nowhere near you but look for someone who works with phobias often.

Some people respond quickly to intervention, but don't get your hopes up. Tackling a phobia can be a long process at the best of times, but it sounds as though your ds has a good reason to fear the things he does.

My ds is overcoming a phobia of flying, it it working and he has now managed short flights without any serious problems. There is hope!
