3 year old boy starting blinking ALOT - any experience?

We have noticed (as have others) that DS seems to have developed a tic. He does lots of double really exagerated blinking.

Is this common?

Is there anything I need to get checked out?

My ds2 did double blinking for a couple of months at the same age. He is almost 4 now and hasn't done it for about 6 months. I didn't take him to the doctor as it seemed to mainly happen when he was tired. By the time I got worried enough he had stopped .

Does your DS do it all the time?

My ds has also done this but grew out of it after a couple of months. (did it when he was c. 3yo) Sometimes seems to do it again if he is more tired than normal. Wouldn't worry too much about it.

He is doing it ALOT at the moment. Seems to do it mroe when watching TV or talking to someone. Im wondering if its something to do with focussing?

My dd1, also 3, started doing the same thing a couple of months ago(not double, but exaggerated tic-like blinking). I was quite worried and started a thread here.

Someone posted that she would grow out of it, and sure enough, she grew out of it within a few weeks.

So interested to read this. We had same problem with our 2.5 yo ds (now 3 yo). He started blinking rapidly particularly when concentrating. We'd just had a baby dd join the family and we put it down to that as a new stress for him.

We spoke to hv - she said it can be quite a common habit and not to mention it at all to him. He'll grow out of it - and a few weeks later it was happening a lot less and now it doesn't happen at all.

She said it has something to do with them comforting themselves as it feels good to them...??

I wouldn't worry about it unless it continues for a while.

Mine did it too at about the same age - usually when tired.

Hasn't done it for ages but did it again today - he's now 5.
