I gave my ds (16mths) his cup of juice this morning and 5 minutes later i turned around to see that the front of his top was absolutly soaking. I took his top off and his vest, and then checked his cup as i thought it must be leaking. It wasn't so i gave him the cup back and watched him. He is sucking the juice up into his mouth and then letting it all run straight out of his mouth. He is soaked again now.
It's the same cup he's been using for ages and the same juice, so i can't figure out why he's doing it.
Anyone else's child do this ??

Because it is a new game he has just discovered?

Sorry - no advise but it is possible. DD did it for a while. In the end she got fed up of having a damp, uncomfortable top on - whilst in house I didn't change it every time. I also tried distraction too.

Oh god, well i hope he gets fed up soon, i'll be running out of tops.
I think he did used to do it when he first started having a cup too but once he got the hang of it he was fine.

I'm going to try his other cup and see what he does.

I think it may be because he doesn't really want the juice, he's just drinking it for the sake of it.
He did the same with his other cup too.

Well i just said 'no harry' quite firmly and took his cup away. I don't think he is even thirsty and you are both right it's just a game.

When DD1 was about same age she took great delight in flinging plate with dinner on floor whilst looking at me. I never spent ages preparing her food but it still really riled me - just what she wanted so I started ignoring her. That worked.

my dd is 15 months and does exactly the same thing! I now put plastic backed bib on when she is drinking. When I see her doing it I take cup from her and say NO! I think she enjoys the sensation of controlling DOING it iykwim!

My one year old daughter has just started doing it as well ! I am glad she is not the only one! She loves doing it and thinks it is really funny...she looks at me with her mischievous smile while doing it!!! I say NO and she waves her littler finger at me, pretending to say no, while smiling... it is hard for me not to laugh... she is so cheeky... but I try to take the cup away as well... she is obviously not thirsty!!

Yes, It's a game, he's looking for your reaction. Put him a bib on to drink, and try to ignore him doing it.

BTW, when he's older, and starts drinking from ordinary cups and glasses he will go thru a phase of blowing bubbles into his drink. It's the same thing, trying to get you to react
