can a baby have 'night terrors' ?

DS is 4 months old and seems to be having night terrors. I thought they normally started around 2 years old? He starts screaming straight away, no whimpering or moaning before he wakes. he doesn't even wake up just screams and screams even once I've picked him up and cuddled him. After a few minutes he'll settle down but never wakes up.
Any ideas??

Could it be wind? Does he lift his knees up?

he does get a bit of wind, but this is different. he doesn't bring his knees up and he doesn't get any wind up while I hold him and then settles on his back again when I put him in hos crib. it's really weird. he did it again last night

Yes they can. My DS had them from very young. The only way we could stop the screaming was to bring him out of his room into the light. He always settled pretty quickly afterwards again

Yes my friends DS has them and they started around that age.

Yes! DD is six months and has done this for a while now, about once a week. I slightly wake her, give her cuddles and reassurance and she's totally fine. Often I can tell that she's having a good dream within a few minutes.

DH has lots of vivid nightmares, whereas I rarely dream, so I assume she has inherited his dreaming!

ah poor little things, I don't suppose they know much about it though.
