new to this so please bear with me. Lost my wife just over 2 years ago and my daughter is 11 and really struggling. Has bad mood swings, violent outbursts, very quiet and withdrawn and just generally fnds life hard. She has seen various people including are therapist with no success. Thinking of paying for professional help from a counsellor or some other form of help. Any suggestions or recommendations? I am based in Kent
thanks

Have a look at winston wishes. I know my cousins children found it useful when their mum passed away

I lost my Mum at the same age your daughter lost hers. I'll be honest, adolescence was tough. Everything got better when I turned around 16.

Anyway, apologies if you already are, but make sure you talk to your daughter about her Mum a lot. All your favourite memories, your own grief, etc. My Dad went the 'bottle it up' route and it was no good for any of us. Happy to chat more on PM if there's anything I can do... Write your daughter a letter, or anything like that.

Has anyone mentioned this organisation to you?

www.widowedandyoung.org.uk

It has been of immense help to some people I know. There will be parents involved whose children have been through what your daughter has been through. She is at the age when peer support is very important, a friend who really understands may be just what she needs.

It is a national organisation with local groups all around the country.

I wouldn't worry about the 'age range' quoted (assuming your nickname is your year of birth, which it may not be!) you are at a 'young' life stage with an 11 yr old and are precisely the sort of person this organisation is aimed at.
Wishing you and your daughter well
