Do your children have very different personalities?

I have spent the last 12 weeks shaking my head in wonder at how very different my DD is to how DS was as a baby ...
I shouldn't really be that surprised as I am one of 4 children and we are all totally different
DD looks absolutely identical to how DS looked at the same age ... we have been looking at photos today and she could be the same baby ... BUT she is just a different species altogether!
For example ... For all of his babyhood DS would cry until he fell asleep and cry the minute he woke up ... he did this until he could talk and now at 4 and a half he talks ALL DAY until he falls asleep and wakes up talking ....
This morning I went into DD's bedroom to check on her as it was 7.30am and she was really due for a feed ... there she was lying wide awake with a big smile on her face. I have no idea how long she had been lying awake for ... could have been ages ... When I put her down she sqawks when she drops her dummy but she very rarely cries ...
How different were your babies and how different are they as they get older?

mine were the opposite to yours as babies but at 1 and 2 y o ds was king of tamtrums dd wasn't(well, she didn't stand a chance after what i went through with ds)now ds is 6 and so pleasant, good behaved and loving but still a boys boy and dd is nearly 4 and so bossy, stubborn and defiant she insists in wearing all of her brother's clothes even his pants i've even caught her stuffing toilet paper in them to make it look like a willy, she tells everyone that her name is benjamin(i get some funny looks from old ladies in the super market)but she's really cute and funny
so yes ghosty very different apart from the clothes

Ds3 is 7 months old and he is by far the most difficult of all three as babies. He will go off to sleep in his cot on his own, whereas the other 2 never would, but he is constantly wanting me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me and only I will do. Fair enough really as I realise he's probably normal and I/we were spoilt by DS2 would would happily sit in his chair or buggy for ages. My friend once likened him to a handbag actually," as long as you remember to pick him up and take him with you, he'll be okay" DS3 in only ever really happy if he's on my lap or being carried around and cries alot if neither of these are happening. He's alot more sensitive too and will cry at loud noises, ie if I shout(!) or his big brothers make alot of noise, sadily I think he's going to have to get used to that.

My two are completely different - I quite like it actually. For example as tiny babies ds1 would always prefer to sleep in someone's arms, ds2 NEVER went to sleep in anyone's arms - but would drop straight off if you put him down anywhere. DS2 was also very smiley and chuckly very early, ds1 wasn't.

It has continues, and though they share many similarities, they are still have very different characters.

Ghosty, you could have been describing my ds1 and ds2! (which scotches any thought that it might be a gender thing!)
Actually I'm glad you wrote that about your ds going to sleep and waking up talking - my ds1 also used to cry himself to sleep and cry on waking (and scream during arousals from deep sleep at night) and I found it very distressing, wondering if I'd created this habit - but now I think about it, he also now chatters before he goes to sleep and when he wakes up, so maybe its just his need to be verbalising!

Ds2 is calmer than ds1, and genrally more contented as a baby (I thought ds1 was a good sleeper until ds2 arrived - I know, I'm lucky). He's also more interested in music (dh is a musician, so it gets noticed). But as he is still not yet 1, I'm sure the greater differences are still to come.

My kids are very different.
Dd1 is wiser than her years and can be very serious. She is very bright and loves school. As a baby she was very quiet and well behaved, hardly knew i had her. She was never clingy and very independant.

My Dd2 was the complete opposite of Dd1, and tbh i wanted to take her back . She didn't sleep, was very clingy and stubborn. Her sleep has improved lots but she is till very stubborn. The best thing about her is her sense of homour. She is soooo funny, she can have me in stitches over nothing at all.
Ds is probably a mixture of the two dd's. He was quite a good baby, not clingy but he is very stubborn and has a wicked sense of humour too.
