Help my dd has never eaten a large ammount but recently she has been eating less and less she is 3 and is also not eating alot at preschool. There is nothing I am aware at home that may be upsetting her, so I am now going into super panic mode - she is drinking milk as well as juice and water- any suggestions gratefully received- she did not eat her favourite tea last night so I am a bit desparate

Gothicmama,
I don't know if this is of any help, but my Mum always used to say that no child starves itself or has died from not eating if there was food available. I used to panic all the time and worry how on earth DD could survive on a bite of an apple and a spoon of beans on a daily basis, but they do. Try not too panic too much, esp in front of them as this is good ammunition for them!
DD is now 7 and still eats loads some days and then nothing other days - this morning she ate a quarter of a weetabix and refused anything else - and that has to get her through to lunch.
Hope this is not too rambling.

Oh thanks for that I try not to panic in front of her, I'll chill

Twiglett she is very active but she has a concave stomach when she lies own but this could just be because she has recently lost the baby shape if that makes sense

Don't forget milk is one of those "complete" foods: protein, carbs & fat, so as long as she is still getting that down her I wouldn't worry too much. Both mine seem to go through fazes of eating and not eating.

How long has she been off her food gothicmama? Could it be she's ill with something? My dd goes on a virtual hunger strike whenever she's ill. It is terribly worrying I know when they eat little to begin with to see them eating even less. But like everyone here says, so long as you're offering her healthy stuff that she likes, you can't do any more.

gothicmama · 23/04/2004 13:36

About a week - I do not think she is ill, I feel much more reassured now thanks everyone

Also, is she a 'faddy' sort? My dd has had a 'favourite tea' for a while now and it's always been a sure fire winner for us. But she's just decided to go off it too, leaving me in a bit of a panic about what else to give her instead. Do you think your dd may have suddenly changed her tastes?

gothicmama · 23/04/2004 15:08

Possible i think I will just give her some choices and let her choose or maybe do buffet type meal with lots of bits to pick at
