Feeling very anxious about 9mo not trying to crawl - is it my fault?

I posted about a month ago about my worries that my DS who was then 8mo not being mobile in anyway and was very grateful for lots of reassurance. DS is now 9 months and still nothing and am beginning to feel very anxious about it again and that it's my fault for not putting him on his tummy enough or passing things to him too much.

He's been happily sitting unaided since 6.5m and otherwise I have no worries about his development (he babbles, waves goodbye, eats finger food well inc. peas/cheerios/blueberries, points) but he absolutely hates being on his tummy still. Always have.

I'm worrying that I've been lazy in not making him have tummy time and giving him the toys that he's reaching for. Could this be the case? If so how can I help / change things?

Also, did anyone's LO crawl from sitting rather than tummy time? If so when was this? Was it later than the norm?

I know I"m partly being irrational and over-anxious, but isn't that what MN is there to help with sometimes?

xx

DD crawled a fortnight before her first birthday, pulled up to standing just after she turned one, and by 15 months was walking confidently. She is now a sporty 8 year old who is particularly good at ballet and gymnastics.

As PP's have said, it's often very linked to height and weight. In our group of 5 babies, it was the smaller, lighter ones that were up and walking early.

Crawling is not a developmental milestone, some kids don't do it. My DD went from bum shuffling to walking at 10mo.

My dd crawled at 13 months and took her first wobbly steps yesterday at 17 months. She is on the 9th percentile too. I know whats its like for all the babies around you to do everything first and how hard it is not to compare. They do all get there eventually, try not to worry x

My DD walked at 10m and only just figured out crawling and getting up from sitting to standing without any help at 15m. Dont panic!
Hated tummy time so never bothered in the end..!

Dd was never one for tummy time, she was sitting early and was cruising furniture before she crawled.

My niece for a long time would be happy sitting and chatting and not interested in moving about. There is a big range for mobility and the fact your LO is sitting well suggests it's simply inclination rather than ability.

I'm a strong believer in there being movers and communicators. If dd is pointing etc, I think you have the latter. Enjoy it while it lasts and try not to fret.

I hardly did tummy time with ds. He crawled really early . 6 months or so. He walked at 10 months. Everything physical he did with no encouragement...

And then he didn't start talking until he was 3.5!!

Bloody buggers worrying us Grin

Your dc will be absolutely fine.
