I did post this in parenting but didn't get a reply, so trying here
Hi

DS (6) has taken to saying he is thick. :( He seems to interpret needing to ask for help in class as a sign despite the fact he tells me others ask for help too. We tried to talk to him about this, focus on the 'trying' aspect and praise where appropriate.

His teacher says she has no worries about his development.

I wondered if there are books for him/we can read together anyone would recommend?

I want to gently convey the message that we are all different and find some things easier than others and that is ok. Trying is the most important thing.

TIA

Can I suggest you post in children's books? Someone there will have a good suggestion.

This one is nice and gentle, it talks about thing in nature, people etc all being unique. Its a nice winter one to start with - www.amazon.co.uk/No-Two-Alike-Keith-Baker/dp/1442417420

My son loves books by Jeremy Strong. They are funny and about a family. we read them to him at night and these are the ones he tends to want to read again.

That's a shame. Is there something he is good at that you can do more of?
I would talk to the teacher about this and see if some subtle and specific praise from the teacher might help?

My 6yo especially likes storybooks where people have to face some kind of adversity & challenge but overcome it. Stories about people testing themselves and finding 'Yes I can'.

The Only title I can remember is Ambrose Goes for Gold. I bet public library can advise about similar.

Martial arts & Scouts (Beavers) are also good for building self-confidence.
