2.4 year old still dribbling enough to need bibs 75% of the time?

He's always been incredibly dribbly, more or less constantly. He still has his last 4 back teeth to
come through.

HV referred us to Audiology last month cos of it (?) Audiology Dr said his hearing is fine and speech is very advanced for his age (I suspected it was). She found no outward signs of tongue tie.

So, why the drooling? Should I be worried? Next steps? Thanks!

By 3.3 year old still dribbles a lot. Not enough to wear a bib any more, but enough to think 'you're a bit big for that now'. I have to remind him to close his mouth and swallow if he's engrossed in playing etc. and he sometimes comes out of nursery with a slightly wet neckline on his top.
I've asked the Dr and they said he'll grow out of it. He's a bright lad with very advanced speech and no tongue tie. He has massive tonsils though and I have wondered if these are causing trouble with swallowing? He gags on food more than my older DC did at this age too.

My DS1 (now 13, academically able-average) had a constantly wet T-shirt from dribbling until he was almost 4/ TBH, his mouth is still on the wet side, sloppy kisses

I was told at the time that dribbling isn't a cause for concern in children, only in geriatrics.

I started a thread on this about 6 months ago and am actually at the doctors tomorrow (again) with my ds who's 2.10 because he can soak through a jumper in an hour easily.

He also has no hearing / speech issues, but I was told by a previous doctor some children just don't remember or realise they have to swallow so it could be that.

Other responses on my thread (which I can't find so I think was in chat) were that he could have overactive saliva glands, a dummy may exasperate it, and potentially there is a link to the sports cap type tops on drinks making it worse.

So essentially, I'm in the same boat as you and have no clue what's causing it or when it will stop

We are seeing another Doctor tomorrow as it's been really bad lately and I'm worried it's gone on so long. I will report back with what he says if you like?

DS was like that until he was at least 3! He's now 4.5 and stopped though he is still a hopelessly messy eater. I suspect it is down to his TT which we did have snipped but partially regrew.

It's interesting we all have boys - I wonder if that's a thing?

Just to update in case anyone is interested: ds apparently has huge tonsils (someone mentioned this up thread I think) and has been referred to ent specialist at hospital to poss have them removed.

I am really gutted but I'm not sure why, I had tonsillitis every 6 weeks without fail until I had them removed as an adult and i think I feel a bit sad and guilty that my ds may face the same thing? Fingers crossed it will be resolved anyway. My washing pile is horrendous as we get through so many tops!

DD1 dribbled until she was nearly 3 then it suddenly stopped. DD2 is 2.3 and dribbles occasionally still. DD1 has very big tonsils. Both my DDs have reflux and dairy intolerance. I did read something years ago about reflux causing dribbling.

My DS was like this and it was connected with his adenoids which he had out at the age of 3. I would suggest that you ask your GP if it would be appropriate to have a referral

DD2 was very dribbly until she was probably 3 -3 1/2 then it gradually stopped. She also has very large tonsils but not so big they need to be removed according to the doctor.
