Leaking 'pull ups' at night. Which ones do you use for older children?

Hi, My son is 3.10 yrs old and wears a pull up at night. ( I'm not worried about this btw and don't think its that unusual)

He was dry for about 3 months before my dd was born but the night she came home from hospital he wet the pull up and has done ever since. She's 14months now.

Anyway, we've tried loads of diff types of pull ups but they all leak onto his pjamas. This doesn't wake him but must be uncomfy and causes loads of washing!
We've tried Huggies, tescos, sainsburys, boots, asda etc.

I think if they are made to go up to his age/weight then they should keep him dry. He doesn't drink loads and not at night. He doesn't take a drink to bed. We always get him to go to the loo before bed. He's not huge and slightly under average weight. About 25th percentile for weight.

Which brands do you use for you're older children?

Do they leak because they are 'full' or is it because they don't fit properly round the legs?

asleep · 14/10/2006 10:18

i tried several pull ups and they all leaked at night.

asleep · 14/10/2006 10:19

on DD of course, not myself!

princessmel · 14/10/2006 10:22

I don't think its because they're full as sometimes they don't seem as heavy as they could iykwim and they still leak.

I've found Huggies ok, for my skinny minnies, but expensive, so have gone back to ordinary nappies for nightime, cheaper and more effective.

princessmel · 14/10/2006 10:32

Yeah I could do that I suppose but when ds has worn a nappy on run-out-of-pull-ups emergencys, its just seemed strange putting him in one. For him and me!

i know what you mean, lying down to get it on, the bright white colour. But if they work...?

minki yoyos

princessmel · 14/10/2006 10:40

Yeah I know.... I think I'll try a smaller size first and see how that goes. The ones he wears go up to quite a large weight.

Thanks cappuccino but Ds is nearly 4. It says 18m-3 yrs. Do you use them? I don't know If they would help anyway as I'd be washing them instead of the pjamas!!!
But yes I'd save money in the long run and it would be better for the environment. Hmmm..

princessmel if you go to the minki lady website at www.minkinappies.co.uk you can contact her and she'll make one to size

my dd was late training and she made a couple for her - I think she was 4 at the time

she does special needs orders as well and is really happy to make to order, doesn't cost any more

if you're going to be buying pullups for a while it might work ouit cheaper

princessmel · 14/10/2006 10:55

And they really hold in all the wee and don't feel wet to the touch? I've never used reusable nappies before.

they're fleece lined so they feel dry and soft all night

and have pul lining so they don't let the wet out onto the jamas

they are stuffable so you can put however much stuffing in as you like depending on how much your child wets

maybe try giving one a go to start with? I could flog you one of the ones I have but they're pink so ds might not be too keen!

Another vote for Minki Yo Yos here. Just bought one off E-bay to give it a try - cost about £8. No leaks, feels dry even when wet and really soft and comfy for her to wear - she prefers it over pull-ups, although when stuffed, it does make her bum look huge - I have had to put her in nighties as pjs are a bit tight, so that might be a problem for boys. The other plus is taht they dry really quickly, so I usually just rinse it in the sink, then pop it in with the normal washing and it is dry by the evening.
