How old to need/use deoderant?

Advice appreciated please! My 7 year old daughter has started getting sweaty and a bit smelly with it. I assume I need to get her deoderant, but I don't feel comfortable just doing this. I mean, I think I was probably 11 or 12 before I started using deoderant, and I don't recall any of my friends needing to use it significantly younger. Is it normal for her to be like this? She is not overweight, and she is probably about as active as the average 7 year old girl.
Any advice would really be appreciated!

i'm sure my son was about 8 when he started using it. not every day but mostly before sports.

I think I was about 11/12 when I started, but, everyone is different. Try a really mild cream one to start with (dove or similar?)

I started when I was at secondary school from memory, but if she needs it I can't see the harm in letting her use it. Everyones different so I wouldn't worry.

I am having exactly the same problem with my 7 year old dd. So far I have just been making sure she washes really well morning and evening.

If the choice is between giving her a body spray or deodorant and other children noticing that she smells, I'd go with the deodorant every time. You can buy some lovely ones which are free from nasties, if that's your concern - Lush do a nice range of solid ones.

Thank you all. Yes, it is mostly the contents of the deoderant that concern me. So I'll make sure I get a mild, "friendly" one over the weekend...

My dd was 9 when she started to be a bit smelly after exercise - particularly anything that involved wearing a tight nylon leotard. (Incidentally, why are leotarts always disgusting slimynily?) She uses an unscented antiperspirant for sensitive skin, but only when she's going to do sport.

My 8 year old girl has been getting very smelly for over a year now. I'm tyring to get her to realise the importance of washing and not smelling, whilst not wanting to make her self concious.

It might be worth getting her to wash there every day and only to wear cotton against the skin to see if that works. If she's still whiffy this is a great deoderant with nothing nasty in it.

My dd is 11 and getting her in the shower is a nightmare. She has stinky feet and pits but guess what, tonight we had a bonding moment. Tonight I helped and showed her how to shave her armpits (family wedding tomorrow and she's v. self concious) and she's now walking around saying why can't she be a man! Alos had a go at one of her legs and bought her a bra. She's just budding and has a 34AA because in her words @everyone else my age has boobs so I'll just fake it and smile!@. I love my DD
