Not sure if this is a behaviour problem or an eyesight one

Ds is nearly 4 and for ages now if you ask him to say pick something up off the floor, he takes ages to find it, even if it is really obviously right next to him. It doesn't always happen but the majority of the time it does.

I can't work out wether it could be a) A heraing prob, b) an eyesight prob, or c) that he just isn't following my instructions very well.

Would be surprised if it is A because he can always hear perfectly well when he wants too.

Any ideas ??

Does he seem like he's actually thinking of something else (even though he's sort of faking a search)...and then finally processes your request properly before finding the item?
ds does this all the time. He sort of humours me for about a minute first

I'm not sure, although sometimes yes definatly he is just fake searching, but other times he seems to be really looking and I am saying 'right in front of you harry' and he is just looking round as if there is nothing there.

I have actually got up and pointed before now, and he looks at me like 'oh right yeah, didn't see that'.

Perhaps he is taking the pee LOL.

not sure, but if i ask my son to go and get something for me, he can never find it, even when its obviously there! could you do a little test and ask him if he can see something in the distance, like which numbers is the clock hands pointing to?something that you know you can see perfectly well yourself.

My ds (5) is similar and he does wear glasses but don't know if it was worse before as he's had his glasses since he was 3 1/2. He sort of glazes over when you say behind you, under the table sort of thing and even if you're pointing he looks in completely the wrong direction. no help really am I?

Should have said that nursery haven't noticed a problem by the way.

I will try and test him a bit and see how he goes. It is probably that he is just lazy and knows i'll give up and get up and get whatever it was my self eventually LOL.

You could just take him to an opticians who will do a proper test free of charge. Maybe worth it to be on the afe sie.
