What ages have other parents had their little ones crawl at? Wondering if my little man is especially advanced at 14weeks

DD started crawling at 9 months which is quite late

DS is 5 months and starting to crawl

I'd say 14 weeks is quite advanced - good luck!

staceym11 · 11/10/2006 11:13

my dd didnt crawl till 9 months, but she was late, she iddnt walk till 18 month....shes a lazy cow! lol

14 weeks.......my god, i used to love putting her in one spot and knowing she'll be there when i get back, not much hope of that for you me thinks! good luck!

14 weeks is very early - poor you! I predict your ds will be standing up & walking around holding on to the furniture by 6 months so you'd better get organised with cupboard locks, stair gates etc.
But whatever you do... when you get together with your ante-natal group don't use the word 'advanced' - it'll wind everyone up!
One of my friend's kids didn't walk till he was 2, hardly spoke a word till he was 3 and was still wearing nappies when he was 4. He's 11 now and had his own 'Special Education Plan'in yr 1 because he was so damned brainy his school didn't know what to do with him! He was reading Harry Potter books at 5 and is now doing GCSE Maths!

how long's a piece of string?

14 weeks very early ime

ds was 14+ months!

TutterIckOrTreat · 11/10/2006 12:09

actually no, that's bolleaux - he was 14+ when he walked

12 when he crawled

expatinscotland · 11/10/2006 12:11

DH never crawled. He walked at 11 months.

LunarSea · 11/10/2006 12:13

Crawling properly at 5 months, commando style (hands only and dragging his legs) at 4 months. But have known friends babies who didn't crawl until a year - and now at 5 there really isn't a huge difference at a glance, so it all evens out in the end.

Just a warning that the desire to get on the move early quite likely means that you'll find they start to walk early too - and then run, climb, whatever, early too - at which point you'll heartily wish that they'd stay put, as the ability to move early doesn't mean that they also develop any sense about where they should and shouldn't be moving to!

katylou25 · 11/10/2006 12:38

Hmm have to disagree that early crAWler = early walker. My ds crawled at 5 months but didn't even attempt to walk unaided till 16 months. Was just so speedy on his hands and knees guess he didnt see the need to get uprioght!

Amaretto · 11/10/2006 13:20

ds1 crawled at 9 months, walked at 11 months.
ds2 nver crawled, walked at 10 months (he had been doing so since he was 7 months old BUT needed some help ie mummy holding hands Arrrrrrg). I would have been releived if he had crawled before hand.
Now 14 weeks, that's early!

lenny101 · 11/10/2006 13:26

TOIT and Expat, I'm really glad to know that. Mine's 9 months and not even thinking about crawling. He had heart surgery and hates being on his front so I've a feeling he won't bother crawling and may well just walk when he's ready.

lol fortyplus - good point well made

DetentionGrrrl · 11/10/2006 13:28

Goodness he is advanced then...i thought it was a bit early! He's not great at it mind you, but then a bit of practise and he'll be off like a shot- he's very strong and physical already. Will have to start thinking of a play pen then i think!

Now, now, DetentionGrrrl - what have i told you about the 'A' word?!

And forget about a playpen - he'll rip it apart! If you do get one then best thing is to put the Christmas tree inside it so he can't pull all the baubles off and chuck them round the room

ghosty · 12/10/2006 00:38

Poor you ....
My DS crawled at 10 months, walked at 14.
DD bumshuffled at 11 months, pulled herself to stand up at 13 months, then decided to crawl but still preferred bumshuffling as she had her hands free ... then walked at 15 months ....
I loved being able to leave her in one spot while I did stuff ....

I am amazed at a 14 weeker crawling ...

BeckyBarker · 12/10/2006 00:47

like the idea about the christmas tree in the play pen! it was bad enough with a dog and cat last year let alone a baby this year too!

mine wsa comando crawling at 4 months, proper crawling at 5 months and still walking around the furniture at 8 n half months, he's very confidently standing alone, just watching out for first steps then the havock to come! :0
