Let them watch TV anyway

Been up since six with the dds and they've been watching for nearly an hour already. I daresay they'll watch some more when dh takes over.

redbullbloodandbump · 07/10/2006 07:46

1 hour of tv aday?????????????????????????? could you not give them say 2 hours a tv a day and use an hour in the morning?????

TheUnholyTrinity · 07/10/2006 07:46

not care about the "supposed"

FrannyandZooey · 07/10/2006 07:46

Give them to dp for some 'bonding' time

Pruhoohooohoooooni · 07/10/2006 07:49

Sometimes I think the best asset to childrearing would be a rubber-walled room filled with paint and glitter.
I think DS could last a couple of hours in that then we'd just hose it down.
at current childcare fashion

FrannyandZooey · 07/10/2006 07:50

You mean you haven't got a rubber room filled with glitter, Pruni?

Freak.

Pruhoohooohoooooni · 07/10/2006 07:52

It is a rather brilliant idea isn't it?
I would have loved it as a kid. (To get away from my family [hollow look])

ghosty · 07/10/2006 07:53

I don't class 6am as 'daytime' .... so any tv before 7.30am doesn't count

foxtrottingtotransylvania · 07/10/2006 07:54

you make the rules you can break'em

harpsichordcarrion · 07/10/2006 08:08

yes, I agree with Ghosty.
In all seriousness, I had a toddler who got up every morning between 5.30-6am for about two years (we could only push it to 6am through sheer force of will - 5.30 was her waking time) and I would have gone MAD quite quite mad (esp when i was pregnant) without a stockof wholesome and improving videos and dvds.
now she is 3.5 she wakes at around 7am praise the lord and we watch much less tv

belgo · 07/10/2006 08:10

My dd1 wakes up every day at about 6am. Thankfully we have a TV! It's also about the only time she ever sits down, to watch TV.

FrannyandZooey · 07/10/2006 08:11

If it makes you feel better, sitting in highchair with a toy / crayons / playdough and a story tape can work equally well IME

yellowrose · 07/10/2006 08:38

I have no idea who has come up with an hour threshold, but I certainly ignore it !

TV is the only way my DS will stay still for a while so that I can get things done in the kitchen. I monitor what he watches, it's mostly cbeebies on our Freeview, hardly any soft porn or violence there

I do enjoy a bit of the latter myself though, the Sopranos every Thursday night at 10 pm !!

auntymandy · 07/10/2006 08:39

who says only one hour?
rubbish.

divastrop · 07/10/2006 19:50

they can only watch 1 hour oftv per day.that means they can watch unlimited dvds and videos

If only DD would watch CBeebies at 6am.
How many times do I try that old trick only to find she wanders off after 10 minutes to play with a toy or grab a book and leaves me comatose in front of Roly bloody Mo

SoupDragon · 07/10/2006 20:17

6am isn't the day its technically still night and therefore does not count in the "one hour per day" rule.

ThomBat · 07/10/2006 20:18

You fuck of the rule!

nulnulcat · 07/10/2006 20:50

dvds and videos dont count! they not tv!

yellowrose · 07/10/2006 21:13

rowlers - lol - that bloody roly mo !

I am going to brag and tell you all that my DS sleeps until 8:00 am most mornings, that is because he sleeps late (I put him into his cot at 9:00 pm but he doesn't actually fall asleep until 10:30 or 11 pm most nights - he plays in his cot until he falls asleep !) so don't get any cbeebies until around 9 am - I always watch pingu with him - my favourite

admylin · 07/10/2006 21:21

I also class 6am as night. I was lucky with ds , he always slept right through till 9am but dd was an early bird and often wanted to be up at 6 but as I class it still as night I dealt with it as if she had woken at 2 am - so no getting up, TV or DVD watching or anything, luckily she learnt that there was nothing going on at 6am so she now stays in bed like her brother till 8am natural waking up time (except on school days, haveto drag them out at 7)
