DS not sleeping through anymore = tired mummy and daddy

DS had been sleeping through since he was about 10 weeks old. He's now 4.5 months and for the past few nights has been unsettled after going to bed (usually around 7) and waking up about an hour later. He used to be dreamfed when I go to bed - now he's waking up for this. Body and brain not good at coping with the around 2am waking -DH tried settling him last night but only mummy milk would do!

He's only bf at the moment. I am thinking about starting some baby rice soon. Also teething I think as red cheeks, dribbling, having teething gel helps.

Any other thoughts? He is in a terrible paddy when he does wake up, poor baby.

A lot of babies seem to lose it at this time judging by the threads on here, and there is always a debate about whether solids will help.

It is hard waking up though after having a previously good sleeper. My ds did exactly the same thing and he has eczema, so instead of teething we blamed his skin! I now think it's just something they do and they grow out of it.

The recommendation for solids is now six months, and solids won't help teething if that is what the problem is. Do you bring him back to your bed to feed, at least then you would be lying down!

It's a pain when you're used to them sleeping through I know. Both mine slept through at 8 weeks, and started waking again at 4-5 months. I took it as a sign they were ready for solids - and that seemed to do the trick - also increased amount of milk they were taking at each feed. From what others have said, it seems quite common for them to get hungrier at this age. YOu need to nip this in bud so he doesn't start getting used to milk in the middle of the night again!!!!! I would say its more likely to be hunger than teething at this stage. Both mine went onto solids at 16-18 weeks as long as you introduce things gradually i don't think its a problem. Was surprised to see recommended time is now 6 months - most mums I know have put onto solids at 4!

Go with it for a while longer. He may well be increasing your milk supply and will settle again. I B/F my lasy baby exclusively for 6 months and found that she settled back down again after about a week. I always took babies into bed to feed at night - never had a problem with children then not sleeping in their own beds. The beauty of breastfeeding is that you can feed and sleep at the same time. Take advantage

tatcity the reason they say exclusive breast or bottle until six months is because the baby gets all there nutriunts from the milk and after six months they lose all the iron suply so you need to give them formula or breast milk as well as solids for there iron

the hv told me no solids until four months when i had ds and my attitude was i will give it to him when he's ready a week before his four months and has worked great
