2.11 year old dd started waking for up to 3 hours a night

Just this really. She's never been an amazing sleeper but had got better. However all of a sudden she is waking in the early hours for 1-3 hours at a time. She bangs about and moans but is not wanting us particularly but is just awake and as she is so load she keeps us all awake too. I really don't know why or what to do but we're all getting exhausted. Particularly me as I really struggle to fall back to sleep after so am often only getting 3-4 hours sleep a night.
We have tried a reward chart, a warmer duvet in case she was cold and she already has a Gro clock which had worked well for ages.
We're at a loss as to why this is happening and what to do about it.

Has anyone experienced similar?

Actually -what about teeth? has she had all her molars through yet?

Madallie · 09/11/2014 20:14

Thanks olives, actually yeah I suppose it could be that, even tho she doesn't seem in pain.

Does she still having a day sleep? maybe outgrowing the need for as much seep? I stopped ds's nap when he was talking to himself until after 9 after previously sleeping from 7, seemed to stop that and get nights back to normal. Also have you found yourselves staying inside more in the days for any reason?

Have you given her calpol? My dd only complains about her teeth if I ask.

Also what is she eating? Maybe she's having heartburn - i.e. silent reflux, which could fit with her bad sleeping generally. E.g. could be caused by dairy, soya or spicy foods.

Thanks. No nap for last few months really, just odd one here and there is really tired or we'll have a late night. Also no different or new foods. She is a fussy eater but has been having what she usually has.

I have given Her calpol tonight actually as she seemed under the weather and I did wonder about teeth too.mi guess I'll see how that goes.

When my reflux babies had teeth coming through they had bad heartburn. So really hard nights. My nephew is the same.

Madallie · 09/11/2014 20:44

She did have bad reflux as a baby so maybe this could be it iggy. Thank you. I didn't even think the 2 could be connected.

I found a very weak peppermint tea helped - both at bedtime and when they woke at night. Plus I'd cut down on dairy and any acidic foods (citrus, onions) and red meat for a time. It got better when they got older!

Madallie · 09/11/2014 20:52

Thanks for all the advice.

Poor kid and you. Fingers crossed it improves. Lack of sleep is a killer :(
