Is there anything I can do to help him pronounce words more clearly? Most adults struggle to understand him. It is not any particular sounds he has a problem with but nothing is pronounced clearly, all the words seem to blend into one. Sorry this isn't explained very well but I don't know to describe it.

Do you think he has a lisp?

Has he seen a speech therapist?

No not a lisp, he can pronounce the s sound fine. He did see one when he was younger as he was very late at starting to talk but soon caught up. Has a great vocabulary, but it's only me and close family/friends who can really understand him

What has school said? DS has some speech problems and has been seen by a SALT via school who is now supporting him each week in school which is already helping massively

We had a similar problem with ds1 and saw the HV in the first instance.

She tested him using a picture book to prompt him to use all the sounds and used a screening sheet to check the ones he should have been able to say at his age.

He was within the range of normal and his speech improved without intervention but she would have referred to SALT if there had been any red flags, or we'd not seen any improvement, or felt it was affecting school or relationships.
