Dummies

Hi, Im just wondering if someone could give me any advice.. My daughter is 17 months old and she does use a dummy.. We do give it to her when she's upset or tired and then one to go to bed with too. I went to buy her another one to replace one we have lost but noticed that they only stock 0-6 months and 6-18 months... She will be 18 months next month and now I'm worried that no one uses dummies from 18 months onwards? I understand that they shouldn't use them for years and years but I thought they stopped when they are around 2? Should I have stopped giving my daughter it by now?? Thanks

Dentally it would be good to stop as soon as you can, but it can be hard if they use it to get to sleep. In terms of speech development it is best not to use it in the day if you can and just keep it for sleep. I think a lot of kids give up on their own at around 4-5 years so it's up to you whether you want to try beforehand or not.

My ds still has a dummy at 3yrs 2months. He has it for about 5 minutes when he goes to sleep, as soon as he's asleep it falls out. He's still using the ones he had at 18months. We clean but do not replace. One of his favourites has a hole in it but he doesn't seem to care.

We've always been keen on him leaving it upstairs & not walking around with it all day. He's very vocal too! The dentist hasn't mentioned a thing. We're not that fussed. Our next baby's due in 5 months & we think he'll kick it into touch when he realises it's for babies & not little boys!
