My 8 week old - head ALWAYS flops to one side

My DS definitely favours resting his head to one side, it's getting a bit flat where he always lies on it. Tummy time, shiny/flashy toys to try and get him to look the other way and me supporting it resting the other way don't seem to be working. Help!

Could be torticollis which isn't uncommon in babies and can be treated with physio.

Agree with itis. My DD1 had this pretty much from birth and I eventually got a referral from the health visitor and she had physio from 9-12 mths or so. The resulting head flatness and slight facial asymmetry took longer to correct but even I couldn't see it by the time she was 3. However it caused me a lot of worry and guilt and I wished I had addressed it earlier for a long time.

Could you perhaps take him for cranial osteopathy? They're great at sorting out any problems like that, could she been caused during the birth? Should be able to find somewhere locally to you and it's not massively expensive.

My DD also had tortocollis, it was picked up by the GP at her 8 week check (I hadn't really noticed it). She had physio for a couple of months and was fine by 6 months. We were given exercises to do at home and encouraged her to turn her head by placing toys etc on her weaker side. She's 5 now and other than a slightly misshapen back of the head (which no one else would ever notice) is totally fine. Definitely go and see your GP as the sooner it's checked the easier it is to treat.

Do you breastfeed? I did it lying down so baby turned mostly to one side (the side he fed from). Even a HP noticed it. No problem as he grew out of it. Just a suggestion.

If it is torticollis it needs physio. I used a cranial osteopath with both my dc's for other issues but I wouldn't use one to treat tort.
