EASY routine

Hi
I've just started to try the EASY routine, I'm not too bothered if my dd wants to feed earlier or later than the guideline given in the book. My dd is 8 weeks old and doesnt seem to like napping too much in the day, eg today, she woke at 8am this morning and has had a half hour nap this morning and has been asleep since 4 this afternoon. According to the book she should be having 3 one and a half hour naps. Do I wake her for sleeping too long or let her carry on.
Any advice would be great - or any tips off anyone else who may be trying this routine.
thanks

Forget routines.Waste of time and energy (at this stage anyway).
Go with the flow.

I second that! Definitely go with the flow!

Hi, to some extent I disagree with the moondog & GB (sorry!). Quite early on with my ds we tried to get into a routine and I found it easier to make sure he fed at the same time each day - if he was asleep I wouldn't let him go half an hour past a feed. It took a couple of weeks but his naps fell into place with his feeds iyswim, and our lives became much easier. hth

Not heard of the EASY routine but agree with MD and GB. Sounds like you and your baby are finding your own routine and you probably have a better idea of what works for you than a book. Trust yourself. Maybe ignore the book for a while or maybe completely.

Agree - don't worry too much yet. The one thing I found really helpful with EASY was discouraging nap st after feed once they get a bit older. Helped my dd to learn to put hersewlf off to sleep on her own, which she has always done like a dream. Mind you, she wakes up all night all on her own too...

If you google babywhisperer you should find their site and they have a msg board - you may get additional useful answers there

routines really worked for us. depends on you mostly i think! if it helps you to have structure that's great. i found it really helped me knowing when she'd be ready for a nap / feed. i tried the easy routine for a bit but it didn't work too well for me. there are a few routines out there - i'd try them for a couple of days and see which one suits you the best. and definitely be flexible - how much is up to you. i didn't mind 15 mins either side. my dd is more of a stickler for her routine than i am!

The idea of the EASY routine is that it is not a clock based one, but an order one, so if your baby wants to sleep later, let her, but then shift back everything else in the routine.

Somewhere, TH did say that before you start a routine, you should observe your baby's natural rhythms, so that the routine is based around your baby, and not the clock. As your baby grows, the routine will need adapting, but she recommended just taking a day out to observe your baby when things get out of sorts, and then re-adjust your routine.

If you do have a look at her website, she does make some things a lot clearer that I think is not very clear in her book (like she does not recommend PUPD for young babies, and then only as a last resort etc).

However, I used her routine and found it to be great. MY DD quickly learnt to fall asleep herself and I never had issues of her wanting to be bfed to sleep, or getting dependent on any other sleep cues, so it really worked for me!
