18 month check

Just had a letter off the HV regarding this - I didn't think they had one until 2 and I only just found out they should know colours for that Shock

What are they asked for at an 18mo check? In all seriousness I'm not really worried, just interested in what we could do with focussing on as he does learn quickly.

I'm also realistic - he's an average kid, does some things faster and some things slower than his peers. Sure they'll level out by 18!

We don't have any development checks in our area.

Dd is 21 months and just getting the hang of colours but her speech has come on a lot since 18 months

anyone?

It's not a competition, they'll just want to check that he doesn't have any obvious developmental delays or additional needs - is he moving, hearing, communicating.

If you want to look up the EYFS Development Matters it will give you an idea of "normal" development for his age range.

Don't think we do the 18 months ones here either else we've not been told- they do the 2 year check. I shouldn't worry dd is 20 months and can only say a couple of colours recently

Up until recently we had monthly visits; thought they'd have clocked any ishoos then. Ah well, the one that's coming is pretty pap anyway so nay bother

They do an 18 month check up in my area but no 2 year check. They expected ds to say at least 10 words, be able to point to parts of the body, build a tower with multiple blocks and draw with a crayon.

I'm not sure they actually do anything if the child "fails" one aspect of the test, ds couldn't clap at his 10 month check up (or possibly 8 month, I forget which one) and they didn't follow it up at all as he could do everything else.

Don't worry it's not a pass it fail scenario, it's just a screening programme to make sure all is well Smile

Or in if

i think the building with blocks isn't so much the building they are looking to see how they pick up the blocks , ie. are they using their hand to grip round it.

My DS didn't really say anything at his 2 year check, although he could talk abit at home at the time, and HV just said if he isn't saying so many words by 2.5 to contact them, he was.
