Teething - I think...

My 18 month old has just screamed herself to sleep. She didn't want anything to do with me. For the last few days she's had a temperature with no other symptoms. She had a few molars coming through recently so we have put it down to teething. She's been waking up to 3 times a night for the last few nights which is extremely tiring. She's had a bad nappy today which makes me wonder if it's something else. She's never really suffered this much with her teeth before. I've been giving her calpol regularly which helps temporarily and then her temperature goes up again. I read on the bottle that you should see the doctor if you need to give it for more than 3 days but I'm sure he'll think I'm wasting his time if she's just teething. Can I give it to her as long as she needs it?

gill, it does sound like teething.. my ds (19months) has just been through this exact same thing with his molars... he now won't go to bed until i've put his teething gel on.. have you tried any of this rather than giving calpol long term? does your dd actually have a temp? apparently molars are the worst ones!!

Thanks saralou. She won't have the gel but most of the time she'll have the teething powders. She has a temperature of 38 which i know isn't that high but hers is normally 36 and she's been so hot that she hasn't worn anything but a nappy for 2 days. I just hope she doesn't suffer like this with the rest of her molars.

38 is actually quite high.... 'normal' is up to 37.4ish...... change of advice, take her to see your gp.. she could have an infection hiding somewhere!! best get it checked and so what if she's just teething!!

Worth getting her ears and throat checked by GP.
