Let me
brush her teeth
Clean up after eating
Change nappies (sometimes)
Wipe her nose if it's snotty
I just wonder if all babies of this age are same
And when do they let you do these things willingly?
I do try make it fun and sing etc but she wriggles and squirms and cries and closes her mouth shut!
Is it normal or is she just like that?
Not worried as I know not much can be done I just wonder if it's how all babies react

10 month old makes a fuss over most of those things. Tricky to brush teeth, happy to wipe face but won't let me wipe hands without a fuss, if in a grumpy mood fights nappy changing, HATES nose wiping.

magicalmrmistofelees · 08/10/2014 13:54

Yes yes yes. We turn face wiping into a game, therefore she just about tolerates it. She quite likes brushing her teeth. But apart from that, everything else is a battle!

Highlandbird · 08/10/2014 13:59

Normal IME but as they get older you can bribe them more easily Wink

plentyofshoes · 08/10/2014 19:34

Normal. Dd is one and is similar.

NickyEds · 08/10/2014 20:56

Not sure if it's normal but it's exactly what my DS is like! Dressing him is like wrestling with an octopus.

Sunshine200 · 08/10/2014 21:05

Yes, sounds like mine. Dd1 never behaved with nappy changes so I was very pleased to potty train her at 2. The got over the rest of it. Going through it all with dd2 now.

AnythingNotEverything · 08/10/2014 21:06

Entirely normal. Don't let her put you off. It doesn't hurt.

If you keep doing these things at every opportunity she will whinge less and less about them.

eversley2 · 08/10/2014 21:15

Have you ever had someone wipe your face with a wet wipe?

Try it, it's horrid. Grin Not surprised they hate it.

I discovered this by accident with ds1. He hated having his face wiped.

I've now got ds2 and reckon his teeth will rot out before he lets us clean them properly. Wink

NickyEds · 09/10/2014 12:12

I don't use a wet wipe- I use a warm water flannel. Can you tell he's my firstBlush

PoppyAmex · 09/10/2014 12:21

Yep, both DC exactly the same. DS is 11m now and it's a nightmare to brush his teeth.

We are very relaxed about most things, including eating but have a few non-negotiable items and are ruthless about them (bath/brush teeth/wash hands/nail cutting etc). It's going to happen no matter how outrageous the tantrum is.

We try to make things fun/easy for them, but ultimately they know those things are inevitable, so get used to them pretty quickly.

ViperActive · 09/10/2014 12:50

I wonder if anyone has any tips on what they do to make it fun?

Sootgremlin · 09/10/2014 13:12

I use a warm flannel on my precious second born nickyeds so don't worry Grin she actually quite enjoys it. I do flannel peekaboo.

Nappy change - toy, pack of (sealed) wipes to scrunch. Tbh there's not a great deal more you can do to make it fun at that age, they are just learning a bit of movement and independence and they are determined to use it!

IMO at ten months it's more about getting them used to the idea of things like tooth brushing, so let them have a play/chew on the brush, do funny voices etc.

WeeClype · 09/10/2014 13:23

I give my 11 month old a wet wipe to hold when I'm trying to change/clean up. She loves to chew on them, its the Huggies aloe vera ones so I'm not sure whether or not its a good idea to let this habit continue Grin

AmyByTheTrain · 09/10/2014 15:36

11mo DS is the same, plus getting dressed (except he seems ok with teeth brushing at the moment).

All I can say is you have my sympathy. As much as I try to make it fun, he knows what's really going on and is having none of it, so I just have to grin and bear it, because whether he likes it or not, those things need done.

DIYandEatCake · 12/10/2014 00:26

My 10mo ds is like this. It takes two of us to clean his teeth properly - he's amazingly strong and wriggly and thinks it's a hilarious game, clamping his mouth shut, twisting his head side to side, fending the toothbrush off with his arms and chuckling (or crying, depending on his mood). He hates nose wiping too. I think I'm going to start with pull up nappies when our regular ones run out - he just flips over and crawls off at the speed of light (chuckling...!) and most nappies end up on wonky as its like trying to put a nappy on a newt. I can't remember when my dd (3) started getting more cooperative - but it happened eventually!
