Fearful Toddler?

Is it normal for toddlers to have so many phobias? At first it was just moths and the strimmer...now it's every insect and every electrical device except the kettle and toaster, mice and birds....feels like everything that moves.

To be honest, I've stopped responding. At first I'd comfort her about a moth, stay calm (I'm not scared of them) and just say 'it's OK, it won't hurt you' etc etc but now I just say 'oh DD, don't be silly' and carry on, while she's crying and hiding her face. Not sure if I should be more sympathetic, or if that's what caused the proliferation of phobias, or if it's normal for toddlers to be so afraid of stuff? She's 2.5, and not withdrawn or shy or anything - just freaks out if someone picks up something with a wire on it.

apologise for incomprehensible sentences, I don't think mice and birds are electrical Blush

Hi, my dd is 2.9 years old and also has lots of phobias too. I don't know if it's usual for toddlers to be like this but I deal with it much the same as you.

Dd's phobias (short list) are spiders, flies, birds, cats (but not dogs!), anyone speaking through a loud speaker/ Tannoy, anyone dressed up in costumes or as a character (even those she likes on tv), showers/hair washing. There are others too.

What is you dd like in other ways? My dd also has a big thing about not eating certain foods. She is however very bright, chatty, funny and interested in everything around her.

yep mine's the same, bright and chatty, very confident, not a shy retiring little thing scared of the world by any means! She's very definite about what she will and won't eat but not hugely fussy - glad it's not just me!
