23 month old DD keeps ignoring us

Grrrr!!! DD keeps ignoring us when we want her to do something that she doesn't want to do like going to bed or tidying her toys. It's like she just doesn't hear us!

Has anyone got any top tips to manage this? We've tried positive reinforcement, count to 5 then a consequence, getting down to her level to explain, giving her desirable options but so far to no avail.

Are we just going to have to live with it until she grows out of it or is there something we can do?

sometimes giving her two options will help.

do you want to pick up the crayons, or the colouring book?
okay you get that and i'll get the other.

i always say to kids that are testing me.. i know that you hear me and that you know i want you to do [whatever]. then maintain eye contact till they do it.

She's not even 2 yet Grin

You can't just say 'tidy your toys' - you have to be there, you have to say 'put your cars in this box. Well done! Now put the Duplo in this box. Excellent. Now put your books on this shelf - clever girl'.

As for 'go to bed' what exactly do you expect her to do????

It definitely isn't too early to get them to do things, it's ridiculously early to be annoyed she's not doing them by herself.

Until recently I needed to guide dd to do everything (she is 3.5 now)

Be more specific and maybe play a game like see who can collect the most bricks, make it fun. Race to bed, chase and encourage her through play.
