Dd obsessed with preschool teaching assistant - normal?

Dd (3.6) recently started preschool and all is going pretty well, I'm over the moon as she has always been very clingy and shy. However, all she ever talks about is one of the teaching assistants, what she was wearing, how she was wearing her hair, she draws pictures for her, asks me to pretend to be her and has lengthy conversations with pretend TA... I'm very glad she's obviously found someone there to trust, but am wondering how normal this is? I guess there's lots of time to start getting more interested in the other children, and I'm hoping said TA will be encouraging this and helping her.

Bumping for you as have no real answers.
My dd is a fair bit younger than yours (2.6), but has been at nursery 3.5 days a week since she was tiny, and has had various obsessions with other adults in that time - anyone who for whatever reason pays her particular attention. She also gets obsessed at times with her grandparents, her godparents, her uncle - a range of adults, really. If I were you I would go with the flow, the novelty will wear off in time, and just feel glad that she is really getting into the preschool thing, and clearly has an adult there she feels she can trust,

Most early years settings have a system of key workers, this allows children to bond with an adult other than their immediate family.

Building a relationship is a good thing and yes some children do become a bit obsessed.

Try not to worry I am sure the staff are encouraging her to venture off and mix, some children take a few weeks to do this though.

Good luck Smile

Thanks! Glad it's pretty normal. I would so love to be a fly on the wall in dd's preschool to see what she actually gets up to there!
