toddler walking on toes - normal?

DD is 18m and otherwise seems completely fine, developing normally as far as we know!!
But she has taken to walking on her tiptoes a lot and my mum is putting the fear of God into me implying that it could be as a result of something sinister... neurologically?
I notice that she does it most when she is tired, and she doesn't do it all the time, some days more than others.
Should I be worried and if so what should I do?
Health Visitor beyond useless (don't return calls, cancelled the only appointment I was due to have with them!) so I can't really ask them. Is it worth a mention to the GP or is that OTT?

It can be a sign of autism, but when there are other behaviours present.

A friend of mine did this because her Achilles' tendons were too short. She had physiotherapy from an early age which helped to sort it out.

It's worth checking out because while it is likely to be nothing, it could be something physical that could be helped with early intervention.

A friend of mine daughter walks on her tip toes and had to wear special orthopaedic shoes. She's 6.
I would get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

thanks everyone!
I can't think of any other markers for autism that DD is displaying, though not sure now I come to think of it what those markers are!!
I will make an appt with the GP and see what they say.
Thank you!

my now 6 yo did exactly the same and he is totally normal! i think he just wanted to make himself a bit taller! no harm in a gp visit if you're worried.

thank you!
popped to gP today (bizarrely they had an open appointment with no notice) and he did a couple of basic checks, said it can just be a habit or a phase and to pop back in a couple of months if it continues.
So I think I feel reassured though I'm neurotic so not entirely and thank you for posts!

My dd is 15 and still does this. She does lots of dance and sport with no problems, I've never thought to query it.
